Three People Facing Charges In Death Of Hilty Home Patient

Three people are facing charges stemming from a death at a Putnam County nursing home early this year. The grand jury has indicted 36-year-old Rachel Friesel and 20-year-old Destini Fenbert on involuntary manslaughter, forgery, gross patient neglect, and neglect charges. 31-year-old Megan Schnipke of Columbus Grove faces forgery, gross neglect, and patient neglect charges.

The indictments come following an investigation into the death of 76-year-old Phyllis Campbell on January 7 at the Hilty Home in Pandora. A state report says two state-tested nurse aides did not check on Campbell at 2 a.m and 4 a.m. that night, even though they marked the checks as completed.

The report also found an alarm on the door Campbell left the building through didn’t go off.

Congressman Jim Jordan Stops In Findlay

U.S. Congressman Jim Jordan stopped in Findlay Thursday to talk politics. He said that he will go for the Speaker’s seat if he gets the chance.

He said that it depends on who has the majority when that time comes. He said he might have to go for minority leader if it is a Democratic Congress.

Aside from possible campaigns, Jordan also talked about healthcare reform. He said the one size fits all model doesn’t work.

Jordan said that by doing this they will make insurance options more customizable. He added that this will help families find the coverage they need at a price they can afford.

Arcadia School District Levy Has No New Taxes

Arcadia School District has a renewal levy on the May ballot. Superintendent Bruce Kidder gave some details on the long-time supported levy.

Kidder said that the levy has no new taxes and will support the schools’ operations.

He said that it will also help pay for some renovations. Kidder said that the renovations will tear down the modular classrooms and put in more brick and mortar classrooms.

Public Hearing On River Benching Water Quality Impact Likely To Happen In June

Before the Blanchard River benching project in Findlay can move forward, Stantec Engineering and the Maumee Watershed Conservancy District must first document any potential impacts to the river’s water quality. That includes scheduling a public hearing on the subject.

It appears that hearing will take place on June 26 at 6 p.m. at the Findlay-Hancock Public Library. That’s according to a public noticed scheduled to appear in the Saturday edition of the Courier.

Police Looking For Missing Bowling Green Man

Police in Bowling Green are looking for a man last seen in the city around two years ago. Media partner WTOL-11 reports witnesses last saw 37-year-old Joseph Stormbringer in the city around May 13 of 2016. Officers say he hung around Bowling Green and the surrounding area. He is also an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.

Stormbringer is white, around 6 feet tall, and weighs around 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He also has a tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Historical Markers Will Mark Areas In Upper Sandusky Where Parts Of “Shawshank Redemption” Were Filmed

Two spots in Upper Sandusky that served as filming locations for “The Shawshank Redemption” are getting Ohio historical markers. The Mansfield News Journal reports the Ohio History Connection will place bronze historic markers at the Wyandot County Courthouse and Stephan Lumber Company on May 23.

The film was mostly shot at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield in 1993. Other areas around central Ohio served as filming locations as well. Filmmakers used the Wyandot County Courthouse for the scene where a judge sentences Andy Dufresne to prison for killing his wife and her lover.

May Day Festivities Set For Bluffton University This Weekend

Bluffton University has a full slate of events planned for graduation weekend. Things kick off Friday with a juried student art exhibition in Sauder Visual Arts Center. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The classes of 1968 and 1978 also have receptions planned Friday afternoon.

Performances of the May Day Musical, “[title of show]” take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Yoder Recital Hall.

Graduation day is Sunday with ceremonies starting at 10:30 a.m. in Founders Hall.

A four-mile race, Maypole dance, and retirement reception for President James Harder are also planned for the weekend.

Hancock Parks District Offering River Float Tours

5/3/18 – 5:20 A.M.

The Hancock Park District is offering a series of self-guided trips down the Blanchard River this month. You can take a self-guided tour of the waterway on May 5, 12, and 19. The trips will follow the river from Liberty Landing to Blanchard Landing. A shuttle will meet people at Blanchard Landing at 9 a.m. each morning.

You can register at the Hancock Park District Office or online at HancockParks.com. The cost is $20 per person per trip an is available for people 16-years-old and older.

Mount Cory Man Killed In Wednesday Crash

5/3/18 – 5:09 A.M.

A collision between a semi and a pickup truck killed a Mount Cory man Wednesday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash happened on State Route 12 near Township Road 51 around 2 p.m.

65-year-old Darrell Howell of Mount Cory was driving his pickup east on Route 12 when he hit a westbound semi driven by 52-year-old Gregory Lyons of Toledo. Deputies pronounced Howell dead at the scene of the collision. Hanco EMS took Lyons to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
