Mayor Lydia Mihalik Discusses Recent Conferences And Importance Of Networking With Other Communities

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik got to talk about her participation in mayor’s conferences across the nation Monday. She said that it helps her to see what other communities are doing when faced with the same issues Findlay has.

Mihalik said that she wants to implement an idea from Denver, Colorado to help kids in Findlay.

Mihalik added that the cards also allow students to get meals to help curb childhood hunger. She said that this helps allow kids to stay active and well fed.

One Car Crash Reported Near Findlay

Update – 10:04 A.M.

A one-car crash injured one person southeast of Findlay this morning. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Hancock County Road 180 and Township Road 168.

56-year-old Carl Bowers of Kenton was driving south on Road 180 when he failed to stop at the intersection. His van hit a road sign and a guide wire for a utility pole. The van then continued into a yard where it came to a stop at a row of trees. Hanco Ambulance took Bowers to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Gas Prices Fall From Last Week’s Highest Averages

Local gas prices are higher today. OhioGasPrices.com reports the price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.43. That’s up eight cents from last Monday, but down 15 cents from last week’s highest averages.

The average price in Findlay is below the state average, which sits at $2.47 per gallon. That’s up six cents over the last seven days.

Prices in Ottawa are slightly above the state average, at $2.49 per gallon. That’s a 15 cent increase since last Monday.

Fire Destroys Home Near Fostoria

Fire destroyed a home north of Fostoria early Easter morning. The fire broke out in the 12000 block of Seneca County Road 28, near U.S. 23, around 4:20 a.m.

Kansas Fire Chief Bob Dible says the fire started near the dining and family rooms of the home. He added that the age of the home and its construction made it hard to fight the flames.

The home was a total loss. No one was home when the fire started.

Fostoria Chamber Encouraging Young Entrepreneurs

The Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce aims to inspire local students to start their own businesses. The organization is sponsoring a “Student Start-Up” program. It’s designed to provide kids with real-world experience in starting up a business, and learning how to run it.

Ten successful applicants will get $200 to start or expand a business. The program is available to Fostoria, St. Wendelin, and Arcadia students among others.

Plans Moving Forward For Ottawa Amphitheater

Plans are nearly in place for a vacant lot in downtown Ottawa. The Putnam County Sentinel reports village council got an update on park projects last week. Green Space Development chair Tim Macke says the site of the former Paul’s Hardware will be an outdoor amphitheater. The project is already funded, and FEMA is reviewing the plans to make sure they don’t add to flooding issues.

The village is also looking at adding soccer fields on the west side of the village and adding river access points in Arrowhead Park.

ODOT Prepares To Change Lights At I-75 Interchange

4/2/18 – 5:01 A.M.

ODOT will replace the stop lights at the State Route 12 interchange with I-75 this week. The agency says crews will change the lights at the northbound entrance and exit ramps Wednesday. They’ll change the lights on the southbound side Thursday night. The work takes place between 7 p.m. and midnight each day. Law enforcement will maintain traffic in the area during the week.

In the meantime, U.S 68 / State Route 15 remains reduced to one lane in both directions between Lima Avenue and the Findlay city line. Crews are working on drainage in that area in preparation for road reconstruction. You’ll see the placement of temporary pavement there begin today.
