Local Gas Prices Continue To Rise

4/16/18 – 6:46 A.M.

Local gas prices continue to rise. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay today is $2.58. That’s up six cents over the last week and 15 cents since the beginning of the month.

Prices in Ottawa remain unchanged at $2.49 per gallon today.

State prices have hit their highest average since August of 2015, at $2.71 per gallon. That’s a 17 cent increase since last Monday.

Phone Scam Incidents Reported In Wood County

Several phone scam incidents are under investigation in Wood County. An advisory from the sheriff’s office says people are getting calls from people claiming that they are deputies. They then tell the target of the scam that they missed jury duty and have a warrant out for their arrest.

The caller then says the person can avoid arrest if they buy money cards and give the card information to them.

The sheriff’s office says it will never call residences and demand money.

Road Construction Kicks Off In Hancock County

4/16/18 – 5:26 A.M.

Road construction season gets underway this week in our area. ODOT says crews will close one lane of I-75 southbound between State Route 235 and the Allen County line for pavement crack sealing.

In the meantime, State Route 698 between State Route 103 and Hancock County Road 24 in Jenera saw lane restrictions start last Thursday. Repaving work is taking place in that area.

You’ll also see continued repaving work on State Route 103 between Madison Township roads 70 and 177 this week.

I-75 Bridge Work Starts This Week

4/16/18 – 5:20 A.M.

The spring road construction season on I-75 kicks off in Findlay today. ODOT will restrict both sides of the interstate to one lane between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. every day this week. Crews are setting beams for a new bridge over the Blanchard River. The lane restrictions take place between State Route 12 and U.S. 224.

Along with the lane restrictions, there is the potential for short traffic stoppages as workers lower bridge beams into place.

Also, the I-75 southbound entrance ramp from U.S. 224 could see some short overnight closures. Construction crews are using that area as a staging ground for this week’s work.

Road Work Continues In Findlay This Week

4/16/18 – 5:12 A.M.

You’ll see continued construction on Findlay streets today. Cory Street is down to one lane between Lima and Sandusky streets. The city has also closed Cory between Sandusky and Crawford streets.

Elsewhere, one southbound lane of North Blanchard Street is closed between Trenton and Melrose avenues.

Crews are also closing Park Street between Lima and Hancock streets for road reconstruction.

Buckland And Cross Square Off In Forum Tonight

4/16/18 – 5:04 A.M.

You’ll hear more from the candidates running for the Republican nomination in the 83rd Ohio House District race tonight. Jon Cross and Cheryl Buckland will answer questions during a forum at the University of Findlay. The event takes place at just after the 6 p.m. news on 1330 WFIN, 95.5 FM, and on WFIN.com. It will also stream live on UFTV’s YouTube page.

The winner of the race will face off with Democrat Mary Harshfield in the November general election.

The Findlay branch of the American Association of University Women, The Courier, UFTV, and WFIN are all sponsoring tonight’s event.

Bob Latta Talks About Zuckerberg Questioning

04/13/18 – 6:40 P.M.

Congressman Bob Latta was on WFIN to talk about their questioning of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He said that they want to know if other countries have played a role in U.S. elections using the site.

He said that Zuckerberg will have to check into that more and report back. Latta added that they questioned Zuckerberg about taking political sides against conservatives.

Latta explained that he has heard numerous stories about conservatives being reprimanded on the social media site or even kicked off.

Challenged Champions Helps Those With Special Needs Through Horses

04/18/19 – 2:11 P.M.

Challenged Champions Equestrian Center has been around for over 20 years. They serve adults and children with special needs through horse-related activities. Executive Director Amanda Sizemore said that they started with only 8 participants but have grown quite a bit.

They offer therapeutic horse rides. Sizemore said they have community volunteers available to help the riders.

Aside from horse rides, they also offer classes while people wait if there aren’t enough horses available. Parents and guardians can also use the classroom to watch the horses.
