Seneca County Commissioners Hear Arguments Against Wind Turbines

04/18/18 – 11:43 A.M.

Residents of Seneca County gave presentations against the construction of wind turbines to the county commissioners. The Review-TImes reports that the presentations were to oppose changes in the law to make it easier to build turbines. The commissioners are in support of these changes.

Opponents say that the changes will infringe on property ownership rights of neighbors. The residents argued that the changes will allow turbines to be built closer to their homes, affecting how they can use their land and the property value.

The commissioners did not change their minds. They said that they have heard from both sides, adding that it is a difficult issue.

Deal Reached, Former Acting Findlay Police Chief Not Getting Job Back

4/18/18 – 11:17 A.M.

Findlay’s former acting police chief is not getting a job back with the police department. The city announced Wednesday it had negotiated a deal to end Sean Young’s appeal of his firing. Young is getting a one-time payment of $15,000 in exchange for ending his appeal.

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik says the city couldn’t fill key positions in the police department in the event Young got his job back. As a result, a police captain position has remained open since February of last year.

The city fired Sean Young last September. The dismissal came as the result of a domestic violence incident involving his wife. He pleaded guilty to the charge last summer.

Findlay City Council Hears Ordinance Creating Rules For Weeds And Junk Cars

04/18/18 – 5:14 A.M.

Findlay City council discussed weeds and junk cars during their Tuesday meeting. The Courier reports that they had the first reading of an ordinance that would amend the city’s rules on the topic. The ordinance includes several conditions that would make a car a public nuisance like missing windshields, doors, or license plates, and the inability to move under its own power.

The new rules also make it so that the city service director can cut and destroy weeds over 6 inches tall. The rules in place now do not have a height restriction on weeds.

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that these changes will make it easier to deal with nuisance complaints. Council voted against a motion to bypass council’s three-reading rule for the ordinance.
