Fostoria School Board Passes Safety Resolution

The Fostoria school board passed a resolution Wednesday calling for elected officials to take action to prevent violence in schools. The Review-Times reports the board is asking for President Donald Trump, Governor John Kasich, Congress, and the Ohio General assembly to take several steps to make schools safer.

The resolution calls for enhanced mental health services and substance abuse treatment, funding for school resource officers, and training for school employees in the event of a school shooting. The resolution also says elected officials should find a way to balance second amendment rights with the protection of children.

Arcadia School Board Sees Results Of Sports Survey

3/22/18 – 5:12 A.M.

The Arcadia school board saw the results of a survey about the needs of the district’s sports programs during their Wednesday meeting. The Arcadia Booster Club said the results of their polling show most people see adding a competitive gym, updating the football field, and improving the visitor bleachers as priorities. New uniforms also received support from people who took the survey.

The board says they will use the survey as a starting point for more discussion on the issue.

Intersection of Williams And Olive Closed Today

3/22/18 – 5:03 A.M.

You’ll want to avoid the area of Williams Road and Olive Street in Findlay the rest of the week. The city says crews are installing a waterline at the intersection. The engineer’s office expects the intersection to reopen after 6 p.m. Friday.

Residents who live in that area will still have access to their homes.

Findlay Man Sentenced For Role In 2017 Robbery

3/22/18 – 4:54 A.M.

A Findlay man has avoided prison time for his role in a robbery in the city last April. 20-year-old John Ritter will serve a sentence in the Western Ohio Regional Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Lima. He’ll also be under supervision for five years.

Ritter and 24-year-old Garth Brooks held up two men behind what was Nicki’s bar on North Main Street last year. Prosecutors initially charged Ritter with two second-degree felony counts of robbery. They reduced the charges to third-degree counts because he helped police with their investigation.

Brooks is serving a four-year prison sentence.

Two Teens Dead After Crashing Into Creek In Wood County

03/21/18 – 5:44 P.M.

Two teens from Deshler were found dead inside a car submerged in a creek west of Weston. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office reports that they received a 911 call around 11:20 a.m. about the car. When they arrived, they found and recovered a Chevrolet Monte Carlo with the help of the Toledo Fire Department’s dive team.

Inside they found 17-year-old Xavier Wensink and his brother, 14-year-old Aidan Wensink. Officers say that Xavier was driving but that it is unclear when the accident happened.

The Crash remains under investigation.

Ottawa Police Respond To Ottawa-Glandorf High school Threat

03/21/18 – 5:36 P.M.

The Ottawa Police Department responded to a threat at Ottawa-Glandorf High School Wednesday morning. The report came in around 9:45 a.m. as a student allegedly issued a verbal threat. Officers quickly found the student suspect and detained them for questioning. Officers decided that the student didn’t pose a threat.

Officers took the student home and released them to their parents. We’ll release more details as they become available.

BVHS Talks About Recent Recognition And Purchased Land

Blanchard Valley Health Systems was ranked in the top 300 healthcare providers in the country. President and CEO Scott Malaney said they owe it to being the only healthcare provider in the area.

Malaney said that this allows them to focus on the future and continue to provide innovative health care. He added that BVHS has purchased land out by I-75 and County Road 99. Malaney said that they are still working on a plan on what to use it for.

Malaney said that they are still figuring out what to use the land for but that there will be others investing in the area too. He said that he hopes the land can be used to better the health and wellness of the community.

Woman Reportedly Made Up Denny’s Robbery Story To Hide Theft

3/21/18 – 7:32 A.M.

A reported robbery at Denny’s restaurant in Tiffin ended up being a hoax. Media partner WTOL-11 reports police have arrested a Denny’s employee for taking money from the business.

26-year-old Chelsea Chaney reportedly told police that a man took the morning deposit bag from her while she was behind the restaurant. After finding evidence that didn’t fit that story, investigators re-interviewed Chaney. She allegedly admitted she took the money.

Chaney faces theft and filing a false report charges.
