Ball Metal In Findlay Says Business Is Good But Possible Tariffs Raise Concern

Ball Metal in Findlay gave an update to the Findlay Rotary Club this afternoon. Ball’s Glenn Jost said that they make millions of cans and ends every day that head all over the country.

Jost added that they are worried about the proposal of tariff’s on aluminum and steel though.

Jost said that despite those concerns, they continue to deliver excellent quality control. He said that only about 5 cans per billion get returned to the company.

Local Gas Prices Falling

3/26/18 – 5:42 A.M.

Local gas prices are down as we start a new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.35 today. That’s down 10 cents over the last week and down four cents from two weeks ago.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.34 per gallon today. That’s even with last Monday’s prices.

Local prices are under the state average, which sits at $2.41 per gallon. That’s down two cents over the last seven days.

Housing Choice Voucher Deadline Approaching

The Hancock Metropolitan Housing Authority is closing its waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher program this week. The deadline is Tuesday at 8 a.m. The agency won’t accept any more applications after that time.

The federally funded vouchers provide financial help with rent costs for qualifying applicants. Those eligible must fall below a specific income level, among other requirements.

Putnam County First Responders Train For Active Shooter

3/26/18 – 5:32 A.M.

Putnam County law enforcement officers took part in active shooter response training over the weekend. WLIO-TV reports first responders used Kalida High School as their training site. Kalida students volunteered to play injured students while law enforcement worked to clear the school. EMS crews also took part in the event.

Aside from using air soft weapons, all the other equipment used by police officers was real. Kalida Police Chief Jim Gulker told the TV station, “It’s simulating what we would actually do in a real life with real-life weapons, and use that training in conducting and getting through the actual event, and doing it safely.”

Cleveland Browns Executives To Address UF Students

3/26/18 – 5:23 A.M.

University of Findlay students will learn from Cleveland Browns executives this week. Topics covered during the University of Findlay Browns Edge Spring Breakout will include wellness in the workplace and data analytics. The event runs Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union on the UF campus.

Current and prospective UF students can attend. The university is encouraging participants to bring resumes and prepare to network.

Volunteers Help Install Smoke Alarms In Area Homes

3/26/18 – 5:15 A.M.

More than 50 volunteers helped install smoke alarms in Findlay homes over the weekend. The Red Cross sponsored the event, part of an overall goal is to install 1,000 smoke detectors in the region by June 30.

Todd James is the executive director of the American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter. He says home fires are the number one disaster the Red Cross responds to. He adds this past year has been a particularly deadly fire year. There have been 12 fire-related fatalities in our region since November 1.

Findlay Convenience Store Robbed

3/26/18 – 5:06 A.M.

Findlay Police continue to investigate a robbery at a convenience store in the city. The incident happened just before 3 p.m. at the Circle K store at 100 Crystal Avenue.

An attendant on duty says a man put what appeared to be a knife to her side and demanded money from the cash register. The attendant gave the man the money and he ran away to the south.

The suspect is a Hispanic man, about 5’6″ with a medium build. He was wearing blue jeans, a black coat, and a gray stocking cap.

Memorial Services Planned For Deshler Teens Killed In Accident

03/23/18 – 4:44 P.M.

Memorial services are set for two teens killed in an accident in Wood County Wednesday. 17-year-old Xavier Wensink and his 14-year-old brother Aidan o Deshler were killed in an accident west of Weston. The visitation for the two brothers will be from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday and 9-11 a.m. on Monday at Patrick Henry High School Gymnasium.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday at the same location, followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetary in Deshler.

Coffee With A Cop Is This Saturday

03/23/18 – 4:38 P.M.

You can join local law enforcement for coffee this Saturday. Coffee With A Cop will be from 9-11 a.m. at Coffee Amici in Downtown Findlay. The event is designed to facilitate relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The event is free to attend.

Cooper Tire Employee Awarded For Supporting National Guard

03/23/18 – 3:08 P.M.

A Cooper Tire employee earned the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s Patriot Award. Manager of Tire Testing Dan Oates was nominated by tire testing technician and Ohio Army National Guard sergeant Nolan Johnson. Oates received the nomination for supporting Johnson’s flexible schedule and necessary leave to fulfill his role in the national guard.

Johnson presented the award to Oates during a special ceremony on Friday.
