University Of Findlay Shows Success In Partnering With Community

The University of Findlay forms natural relationships with the community to help strengthen ties between business and students. That was part of the message president Dr. Katherine Fell told the Findlay Rotary Club on Monday.

Fell added that the University of Findlay has a bright future ahead of it. She said she thinks this is because of the planning and the dedication to support the community.

Cooper Announces New Executive Appointments

Cooper Tire has promoted a long time employee and hired someone new to take the open seats. The company announced that Phil Kortokrax is now the Senior Vice President of global operations and procurement. He has been with Cooper for almost 30 years.

Christopher Ball is taking the roles of senior vice president of Cooper and president of North American Tire Operations. Both seats were filled by Kortokrax before his promotion. Ball joins Cooper following a fifteen-year career at Whirlpool Corporation.

Findlay Ranked Top Micropolitan For Fourth Year Running

Site Selection magazine has named Findlay top micropolitan community in the U.S. for the fourth year in a row. Findlay-Hancock County Economic Development director Tim Mayle said that Findlay has been doing better than ever.

Mayle added that northwest Ohio is doing great as well but that Hancock County stands out, despite only making up 6% of the population in northwest Ohio.

Site Selection magazine ranked 575 cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county.

Local Gas Prices Jump Over The Last Seven Days

Gas prices are up as we start the new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular today is $2.41. That’s up 16 cents from last Monday.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.39 per gallon today. That’s up fourteen cents over the last seven days.

Local prices are above the state average, which sits at $2.38 per gallon. That a nine-cent increase over the last week.

Hurricane Maria Survivor To Speak At UF

It’s been a little over five months since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in late September. University of Findlay graduate Jorge Figeuroa was living in the country during the storm.

Since the disaster, Figueroa has dedicated his time to speaking about the hardships of the storm and its aftermath. He hopes to share ways to bring the island back to life and be better prepared for future disasters.

Figueroa will be speaking at the Winebrenner Theological Seminary on March 22 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

His presentation will take place in room 254 and the event will be free and open to the public.

Upper Sandusky Woman Involved In Fatal Crash Near Marion

3/5/18 – 7:25 A.M.

A fatal crash near Marion injured a woman from Upper Sandusky Sunday morning. The State Highway Patrol reports 45-year-old Tara Baker suffered injuries in a two-car collision west of Marion around 9:40 a.m.

Baker was driving south on Marion-Williamsport Road at the time. The patrol says its preliminary investigation shows Baker failed to yield at the intersection with State Route 309 and hit a car driven by 73-year-old Edwin Keirns of Marion. The crash killed Keirns and seriously injured his passenger.

The crash remains under investigation.

Pro-Life Demonstration Held In Fostoria

Pro-life demonstrators picketed in front of ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital Saturday. The Review-Times reports members of several pro-life groups wanted to draw attention to a recent agreement made between ProMedica and Capital Care Network. ProMedica has agreed to a patient-transfer deal with Capital Care. The arrangement keeps Toledo’s last surgical abortion clinic open.

The crowd demonstrated for about 40 minutes outside Fostoria Community Hospital. The group then made its way to the St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery. That’s where they placed a wreath beneath a plaque dedicated to “The Unborn.”

Two Injured In Saturday Crash

3/5/18 – 5:39 A.M.

A two-car crash injured two people in Findlay Saturday morning. The Findlay Police Department says the crash happened at the intersection of County Road 300 and Interstate Drive around 8:20 a.m.

20-year-old Kayla Griggs of Findlay was driving north on Road 300 when she tried to turn left in front of 28-year-old Hannah Snyder. Snyder hit Griggs head-on as a result. Hanco EMS took both drivers to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment.

Officers cited Snyder for failure to yield.

Eagle Township Home Damaged In Weekend Fire

3/5/18 – 5:31 A.M.

A ceiling fan caused a fire in an Eagle Township home over the weekend. The fire broke out at 10355 Hancock County Road 45 around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Arlington Fire Chief Allan Latta says the fire didn’t cause any injuries. It did damage parts of the inside and the outside of the house.
