Park Street In Findlay Closing For Four Weeks

A Findlay street will be closed for the next four weeks for construction. Park Street closes today to through traffic from Lima to Hancock Streets. The City of Findlay will be installing a new waterline as well resurfacing the roadway.

You’re urged to avoid the block if possible. The engineering department will release updates when they are available. If you have any questions about the project, you can call the engineering department at 419-424-7121.

Local Gas Prices Up To Start The Week

Local gas prices are up for the most part as we start the new week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.45 per gallon today, up six cents from last Monday. Prices are up 27 cents over the last month.

Findlay’s prices are just above the state average, which sits at $2.43 per gallon. That’s a one-cent increase since over the last seven days.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.34 per gallon today. That’s the same as prices were a week ago.

Red Cross Needs Volunteers To Help Install Smoke Alarms

The Red Cross needs volunteers to help install smoke detectors in Findlay this coming weekend. Around 100 volunteers will visit around 800 homes in the northwest area of Findlay on Saturday. The event runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Volunteers will also help families create escape plans in case of a fire or other emergency.

Delaware Township Ordered To Remove Concrete From River Bank

3/19/18 – 5:23 A.M.

The Delaware Township Trustees in Hancock County have to remove concrete placed along the banks of the Blanchard River back in 2014. The Courier reports the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ordered the trustees to take away the concrete pieces by April 27. While the township says it put the concrete along the river bank to prevent Township Road 302 from washing out, the Corps says it’s a violation of the federal Clean Water Act.

A letter from the Corps says the township must remove all concrete below the river’s high water mark. Trustee Chairman John Beagle tells the newspaper only a small amount of the concrete is actually below that level.

I-75 Widening Will Close Route 15 Exit Ramp Tonight

3/19/18 – 5:11 A.M.

You won’t be able to use the State Route 15 exit to southbound I-75 tonight. ODOT says they’re closing the exit ramp from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. Tuesday so crews can build the deck on a new bridge over the ramp. They will also implement short stoppages on the ramp from southbound I-75 to State Route 15 between midnight and 5 a.m.

In the meantime, Route 15 remains reduced to one lane in each direction between Lima Avenue and West Hobart Avenue. Crews are working on drainage in that area.

Number Of Cases Filed In Hancock County Juvenile Court Declining

3/19/18 – 5:05 A.M.

Juveniles are committing less crime in Hancock County. The court saw a little more than 1,100 cases filed in 2017. That represents a 100 case decline from 2016 and is the lowest number of cases since 1985.

Violent crimes and alcohol and drug violations are down. Property damage and weapons offenses also declined. One area that saw an increase was sex offenses involving juveniles.

Wood County Historical Society Receives State Grant

03/16/18 – 11:13 A.M.

The Wood County Historical Society received a grant from the Ohio History Connection. The grant came in at over $4,000 to further the society’s Preservation for Generations campaign. The campaign takes artifacts from Wood County for collections storage and preservation efforts.

The Wood County Historical Society was one of 9 receiving agencies out of 46 applications.

Safe Ride Home Giving Free Rides For St. Patrick’s Day

Safe Ride Home is wanting you to have a happy St. Patrick’s day but more importantly a safe one. President Eric Stearns said you can get ride starting early tomorrow.

Stearns said that the service is a nightcap though. They won’t take you to anywhere but home or where you’re staying for the night.

Green Waste Site Opens Early Next Month

The Green Waste Site in Findlay will be opening soon. The Mayor’s Office announced that the site on West High Street will be opening on April 3.

The Site will be open from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, excluding holidays. The site is for yard waste disposal only. You cannot drop off bags, trash, or debris other than leaves, brush, limbs, and grass. You will not be allowed to drop off items if you do not follow this rule.

The site is intended for residential use only.
