Trump Accuser Running For Ohio House Seat

A woman who accused President Trump of sexual misconduct during the 2016 election is getting into politics. Rachel Crooks filed paperwork yesterday to run for the Ohio House seat covering Sandusky and Seneca counties. Crooks claimed the president kissed her against her will while working at Trump Tower in 2005. Ohio Democratic Party officials say Crooks is running on a platform of jobs, education and health care.

Cancer Patient Services Chili Cook-Off This Saturday

Cancer-Patient Services is holding its Annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser this Saturday. Event co-chair Suzette Boyd said they hope to bring in a bigger crowd than last year.

The event will feature over 20 teams competing for best chili as well as a kids zone. There will also be basket and trip raffles for sale. Boyd said that the proceeds will help fund the services offered by the organization.

Tickets to the event are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12-years-old and free for children under 6. The event will be from 4:30-8 p.m. at the University of Findlay’s Koehler Center.

Dead Woman Found In Hancock County, Sheriff’s Office Considers Death Suspicious

A dead woman was found in Hancock County Sunday along Cass Township 215. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that the body is of 28-year-old Danielle Rice of Findlay. They are considering her death as suspicious.

University Of Findlay Horses Under Quarantine

Ohio racehorse owners are urged to keep an eye on their horses after two tested positive for Equine Herpes Virus 1. Media Relations coordinator Joy Brown said that this has affected the University of Findlay.

Brown explained that the horses are being closely monitored and quarantined away from the other horses for the next 4-6 weeks. She added that this is not the same strain that killed several horses in 2003.

There are two racehorses in Washington, Pennsylvania that are also under quarantine. One of these horses raced near Lebanon, Ohio in January. The virus can spread from horse to horse quickly but isn’t a human health threat.

Mihalik Says Findlay Operating More Efficiently As It Enters 2018

Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik continues to make the rounds to recap how 2017 went for the city and give an update on what to look for in 2018 and beyond. Speaking to the Findlay Rotary Club on Monday, Mihalik said there’s work to do to make sure more people can participate in the city’s thriving economy…

Mihalik stressed that private-public partnerships can work to address these issues. Mihalik says she’s looking forward to working on these items in 2018.

Mihalik also pointed out that water and sewer rates have remained flat and the city has managed increasing health care costs. She added that the city has improved its efficiency since 2011.

Mihalik also gave an update on city operations to the Hancock County Republican Party last Friday.

Waterline Work Starts North Of Findlay Today

You’ll see waterline installation projects start this week in Hancock County. Crews are set to begin work today on Township Road 142 from County Road 99 to State Route 613. After they install that section of pipe, the work moves to State Route 613 between Township Road 142 and I-75, and then on to Township Road 107 from Township Road 142 to the old landfill entrance.

Roads will remain open in the construction areas but you can expect a few delays.

Findlay High School’s “We The People” Team Wins State Title

Findlay High School’s “We The People” team collected another state championship last week. It’s their 15th in the last 16 years. The victory means the team is going to the national competition in Washington D.C. at the end of April.

The team competes in contests that test their knowledge and positions on historical and contemporary issues. Students must provide prepared answers to competition questions and undergo questioning in simulated legislative hearings.

Kindergarten Registration Underway In Findlay

Kindergarten registration is underway for the Findlay City School district. If you have a child who will turn 5-years-old before August 1, you can contact the elementary school in your neighborhood to sign up. You can also get more information by calling (419)425-8275 or by going to fcs.org.

The district has scheduled kindergarten screening for May 14 through May 18.18.

Gas Prices Up For Second Straight Week

For the second straight week, we’re starting off with higher gas prices. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.50 for a gallon of regular. That’s up 14 cents from last Monday and 21 cents from two weeks ago. Prices are seven cents higher than they were a month ago at this time.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.45 per gallon. That’s up six cents from last week.

The statewide average stands at $2.46 per gallon, up six cents over the last seven days.
