Ohio racehorse owners are urged to keep an eye on their horses after two tested positive for Equine Herpes Virus 1. Media Relations coordinator Joy Brown said that this has affected the University of Findlay.
Brown explained that the horses are being closely monitored and quarantined away from the other horses for the next 4-6 weeks. She added that this is not the same strain that killed several horses in 2003.
There are two racehorses in Washington, Pennsylvania that are also under quarantine. One of these horses raced near Lebanon, Ohio in January. The virus can spread from horse to horse quickly but isn’t a human health threat.
