Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies no longer have to take inmates from the county jail to their arraignment hearings. The Putnam County Sentinel reports the municipal court started using a video arraignment system late last week.
Sheriff Brian Siefker says the system will cut down on the manpower it takes to transport inmates to and from the court. He added it sometimes takes two corrections officers to escort an inmate.
IT director Joe Burkhart tells the newspaper other counties housing inmates in Putnam County can also use the system, saving them transportation costs.
