Patrol Urges Drivers To Take It Slow In Winter Weather

12/05/17 – 2:42 P.M.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges drivers to prep for winter driving. In a release, they say you should always carry a winter kit in case you get stranded. This kit should include blankets, snacks, and water. You should also drive slowly on icy roads and during inclement weather.

The patrol adds that if you get stuck in inclement weather you’ll want to turn on your hazard lights. If you’re stuck in snow you’ll need to make sure your tailpipe is free of all snow and debris to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Findlay post commander Matt Crow says you can #677 for assistance.

Last winter there were over 13,000 crashes on snow, ice, or slush covered roads in Ohio. These crashes caused 26 deaths and more than 3,600 injuries. Speed was a factor in almost a quarter of these accidents.

Arlington Officials Grapple With How To Deal With Burned Out Building

12/5/17 – 5:13 A.M.

Arlington officials are working to clear a fire damaged building in the village. The Courier reports the building sits at 501 North Main Street. A fire damaged the structure nearly a year ago.

However, there are several complications. Council has to find out who actually owns the property, and if there is insurance on it. A foreclosure and a divorce further complicate the matter.

Beyond that, the village needs an engineering assessment of the home. Once they take care of all that, the village can contact the property owner to insist they fix or tear down the building.

UPDATE – 12/5/17 – 4:53 A.M.

A complaint about robocalls made before the general Hancock County is going back to Columbus for a second round. Chris Hughes of the Ohio Elections Commission says the agency sent the original complaint back to the filer. Hughes says the filing cited Ohio’s “false statement” campaign law. The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled the law is unconstitutional and unenforceable.

Deborah Cook submitted the complaint in November on the behalf of Families for Safety and Security. She tells the Courier she has refiled the complaint focusing on the fact the call did not include a disclaimer about who paid for the anti-sales tax message.

The original filing alleged that TRZ Communications of Akron made robocalls on behalf of an anonymous caller against a sales tax for the proposed jail expansion.
