ODOT To Close I-75 Ramps This Coming Weekend

11/27/17 – 5:15 A.M.

The I-75 widening project in Findlay will close some entrance and exit ramps this coming weekend. ODOT reports crews will close the entrance and exit ramps to and from the southbound part of the interstate to U.S. 68 and State Route 15 late Friday. Workers will take the weekend to set beams for the new flyover ramp over the railroad and the existing I-75 southbound to U.S. 68 loop.

ODOT will close the ramps around midnight on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They’ll reopen around 5 a.m. each of the following days.

Firefighters Battle Blaze In Western Putnam County

11/27/17 – 5:05 A.M.

A wood-burning stove may have caused a fire in western Putnam County over the weekend. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reports the incident happened in a shed in the 19000 block of Jennings Township Road 21 around 3 a.m. Sunday. Four fire departments helped put out the blaze.

The building contained tools and a couple of vehicles. The fire did not cause any injuries.

Investigation Continues Into Weekend Shooting In Findlay

UPDATE: 5:23 P.M.

The investigation continues into the shooting death of a man in Findlay. The Findlay Police Department identified the victim as 42-year-old Brain McQuistion. Officers responded to a call around 8 p.m. Saturday night at an apartment at 231 East Foulke Avenue, where McQuistion lived. When officers arrived they found the door to Apartment 2 open, and his body inside. No one else was home.

The Lucas County coroner stated that McQuistion was shot once in the head.

Police continue to search for a suspect in the shooting.

Toys For Tots Starts Monday For University Of Findlay

The University of Findlay’s Toys for Tots Drive begins Monday. UF’s goal is to collect 300 toys for Hancock County which will assist the U.S. Marine Corps with giving four toys to each child in need. Donations can be dropped off in boxes at the Alumni Memorial Union. You can also give cash donations at the Office of Student Activities.

Donations will be accepted November 27 through December 1 and from December 4 through December 6 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 – 5 p.m.

2 Dead, 3 Injured In Thanksgiving Day Crash

11/24/17 – 10:31 A.M.

Two people are dead and three more are injured after a crash near Bowling Green. The Courier reports that the accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. A Ford Focus was heading south on Rudolph Road and failed to yield at the intersection with U.S. 6. A Ford Explorer was going through the intersection at the same time and the two cars collided.

Both front seat occupants of the Focus were pronounced dead at the scene while a rear seat occupant was critically injured. A medical helicopter took them to a hospital. The occupants of the Explorer were in stable condition and taken to a nearby hospital.

The names of those involved are being withheld until families are notified.

Findlay Celebrating The End Of Downtown Construction

Findlay will be celebrating Small Business Saturday with a grand re-opening of Downtown. Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that now is the perfect time to celebrate the finished construction and show some love for downtown businesses.

The grand re-opening is at 9 a.m. at the midblock crosswalk between Main Cross and Crawford Streets. This comes after months of construction causing pain to business owners and drivers alike.

Recent Car Break Ins In Findlay Could Be Related

Findlay Police are investigating a series of car break-ins on the city’s east side Monday. The break-ins happened at Planet Fitness on Tiffin Avenue and the YMCA on Manor Hill Road. Findlay Police Lt. Robert RIng said that the break-ins could be related.

Ring added that taking your valuables out of sight is the best way to make sure they stay as safe as possible.

Findlay Will Light Up Its Christmas Tree This Friday

11/22/17 – 3:13 P.M.

Findlay will ring in the holiday season after Thanksgiving by lighting up the Christmas tree in Dorney Plaza. Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that she is ready for the annual tradition.

The Christmas tree will be lit at 6 p.m. on Friday. The public is welcome to attend. Afterward, Santa will lead attendees to the Kiwanis Santa House. THere they will get cookies, hot chocolate, and horse-drawn wagon rides.
