Findlay Noon Rotary Raises More Than $50,000 For Charity

The Findlay Noon Rotary Club gave more than $50,000 to area charities recently. The Courier reports the club raised the money through its biannual “Rotathatlon” event. A group of Rotary captains drafted teams made up of club members who raise money throughout the competition. Each team adopts a local charity of their choice.

The Crime Prevention Association Boot Project, Findlay Family YMCA, and Hancock County Habitat for Humanity were among 10 organizations receiving money. You can see a full list in today’s Courier.

Update On Hancock Hotel Coming Later This Week

11/28/17 – 5:14 A.M.

Marathon Petroleum will give an update on the Hancock Hotel construction later this week. The Hancock County Republican Party says company officials will talk about the project at their monthly First Friday meeting. Engineering manager Don Malarkey and hotel general manager Matt Korsos will speak at the event.

Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., with the program at noon. For reservations, call 419-422-5946. The cost of the buffet is $10.

Findlay School Board To Hold Special Meeting To Approve Storm Repairs

11/28/17 – 5:09 A.M.

The Findlay City School district will take another step toward storm recovery today. The school board is holding a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. to approve repairs. The high school suffered damage when severe weather rolled through the area earlier this month.

The meeting takes place at the administration building at 2019 Broad Avenue.

The board also expects to approve an amended appropriations resolution and approve out-of-state travel for Millstream Career Center students.

McComb Wants Restitution From Park Vandals

11/28/17 – 5:04 A.M.

McComb officials would like the juveniles who vandalized concrete at the village park to pay the repair bill. The Courier reports council members talked about seeking restitution from the five suspects in the case during their Monday meeting. They said the October incident cost around $3,000 in repairs and labor.

The group allegedly defaced newly poured cement sidewalks. They are facing charges in the Hancock County Juvenile Court.

Council also heard a suggestion to see if the offenders could do community service in the village.

Findlay Rotary Club Hears More About New Brake Production Facility

Findlay Rotary members got to hear about the new plant being put up by Autoliv Nissin Brake Systems. Plant General Manager Wil Schroeder said that they needed the new plant.

Online Scams Are Easily Avoided With Proper Caution

As you’re picking out holiday gifts you’ll want to steer clear of online scams. Toledo Better Business Bureau president Dick Epstein said that these scams can take your money on fake websites.

The websites will use pictures and links to seem as real as possible. He said quick google searches can often let you know if a site is a scam or not. You can also check a shop’s BBB rating to see if they are scams.

Local Gas Prices Continue To Fall

11/27/17 – 6:55 A.M.

Local gas prices continue to fall. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.36 per gallon today. That’s down 14 cents over the last week, and down 30 cents from this month’s highest prices.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.34 per gallon today. That’s a decline of 14 cents over the last seven days.

Local prices are below the state average of $2.41 per gallon. That’s a 14 cent drop from last Monday.

Officials Identify Victims Of Deadly Thanksgiving Crash In Wood County

11/27/17 – 6:47 A.M.

Law enforcement says a Thanksgiving day crash in Wood County took the lives of a pair of sisters. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office reports the crash at the intersection of Rudolph Road and U.S. 6 killed 58-year-old Amy Mussard and 62-year-old Celia Jane. The collision also critically injured their mother, 90-year-old Katherine Mussard. She is still receiving treatment at Toledo Hospital.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t been able to locate next of kin for the women.

Their car was traveling south on Rudolph Road when it ran a stop sign and drove into the path of an SUV. Officials have not released the names of the people in the SUV.

The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic Enforcement Blitz Leads To More Than 1,000 Citations

11/27/17 – 5:33 A.M.

Law enforcement officers in northwest Ohio pulled over more than 2,200 people over a 60-hour period last week. The State Highway Patrol reports nearly 30 agencies in a 12 county area of northwest Ohio took part in the “Lights for Lives” campaign. The stops resulted in more than 1,000 citations and the arrest of 34 impaired drivers.

The campaign ran from November 20 through November 22.

The State Patrol says there were no fatal crashes on roads in the region during the traffic blitz.

Historic Riley Creek Tour Set For This Weekend

You can take a tour of historic buildings along Riley Creek near Pandora this weekend. The third annual Riley Creek Christmas Tour is set for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The free tour includes four stops along the waterway.

The stops include a one-room schoolhouse, a log cabin, a blacksmith/gunshop, and a reconstructed log barn.

The buildings will have Christmas decorations and entertainment.
