Quick Change Scam Hits Local Business, Findlay Lieutenant Offers Advice

There was a recent quick change scam reported at the Northside Party Mart in Findlay. Lt. Robert Ring said that these scams happen when a person pays for a small item with a large bill and quickly changes how they want it broken.

Three Headstones Damaged At Maple Grove Cemetery

10/20/17 – 1:19 P.M.

Findlay Police investigated a the damaging of three headstones in a Findlay cemetery Tuesday. A witness that regularly walks the Maple Grove Cemetery noticed the damage near the entrance of the cemetery. There were tire tracks in the grass going over the top of three headstones. The headstones were knocked off their bases. Two were several feet from their original location and the third was about a foot away. They belong to Lawrence Moore, Charles Lucas, and an unidentified Lucas family member.

Police believe a vehicle took the corner too wide and went over a bush, hitting the memorials. They add that the vehicle likely has front-end damage. Lt. Robert Ring said that this appears to be an accident and not intentional.

Mount Blanchard Officials Move To Get Junk Removed From Properties

Mount Blanchard officials want to take action against people who leave junk on their properties. The Courier reports village council talked about new rules on the subject this week. Council is proposing rules that give residents 15 days to remove junk form their lawns following a notice.

If the village has to remove the junk, they would assess the property owner for the work on their property tax bill.

North Main Street Crash Injures One In Findlay

10/20/17 – 7:37 A.M.

A two-car crash injured a Findlay woman Thursday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department says 25-year-old Shelby Troutner was driving north on North Main Street just after 1 p.m. when she hit the back of a car driven by 54-year-old Anne Hayes of Findlay. The collision happened near Ely Avenue.

Hanco Ambulance took Troutner to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Police cited Troutner for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.

Two Injured In Crash East Of Findlay

10/20/17 – 7:29 A.M.

A two-car crash east of Findlay injured two people Thursday afternoon. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says 26-year-old Kaila Bollinger of Bloomville was driving east on the highway around 3:45 p.m. when she rear-ended a car driven by 66-year-old Robert Heacock of Findlay. Heacock had slowed to wait for another car to turn onto Township Road 246.

Hanco EMS took Bollinger and 65-year-old Beth Wilhelm to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Wilhelm was a passenger in Heacock’s car.

Deputies cited Bollinger for failure to maintain an assured clear distance.

Truck Driver Injured When Vaping Device Explodes

10/20/17 – 6:45 A.M.

A truck driver’s vaping device exploded in his shirt pocket last night, injuring the man while he was driving south down I-75 in Wood County. The State Highway Patrol reports the incident happened around 11:10 p.m. north of Cygnet.

34-year-old Daniel Reyes of Amherst, Ohio suffered burns as his shirt caught on fire, but managed to pull the truck to the side of the interstate. He put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.

Emergency responders took Reyes to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. A medical helicopter took him from there to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo. Investigators say Reyes’ injuries were not life-threatening.

Rate For Natural Gas Aggregation Increasing Slightly In Findlay

10/20/17 – 5:33 A.M.

If you live and Findlay and have enrolled in the city’s natural gas aggregation program, you’ll pay slightly higher rates over the next year. The city says the new 12-month fixed rate will be $4.37 per thousand cubic feet of gas. That’s compared to the current $4.29 per thousand cubic feet rate.

U.S. 68 Ramp To Southbound I-75 Closed Today

10/20/17 – 5:26 A.M.

The I-75 widening project in Hancock County will close an entrance ramp to the interstate today. ODOT says crews are closing the ramp from U.S. 68 to southbound I-75 from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Construction workers are using the ramp to stage the concrete trucks that are helping pour the deck for the new Harrison Street bridge.

ODOT is detouring traffic north on I-75 to State Route 12, where drivers can turn around and head south on the interstate.

McComb Starting Quarterback Charged In Burglary Case

10/20/17 – 5:18 A.M.

The starting quarterback at an area high school is facing a burglary charge. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies arrested 18-year-old Cam Morris Thursday. Details surrounding the allegations are unavailable at this time.

The Courier reports Morris played in every game for McComb this season except for a week 7 game against Riverdale. He’s accounted for 22 total touchdowns and more than 1,500 total yards of offense for the Panthers.

McComb is unbeaten in the BVC. They play Pandora-Gilboa tonight and Liberty-Benton next week.

Plans Under Way To Fill Cliff Hite’s Former Senate Seat

10/20/17 – 5:09 A.M.

We’re learning more about who could take Cliff Hite’s former 1st District Ohio Senate seat. The Courier reports State Representative Robert McColley of Napoleon plans to toss his name into the hat. The newspaper adds State Representative Craig Riedel of Defiance is also considering plans to pursue the seat.

State Representative Robert Sprague of Findlay and Mayor Lydia Mihalik both say they are not interested in the job. Sprague is running for State Treasurer. Mihalik tells the newspaper, “I have one of the best jobs as mayor of Findlay.” No one from Hancock County has expressed interest in the position according to county Republican Party Chair Jim Baker.

Plans to fill the State Senate seat vacated by Cliff Hite are coming together. Senate President Larry Obhof says the Republican Caucus will accept applications until 4 p.m. on November 6. They’ll screen applicants early next month. Hite’s term runs through the end of next year.

Hite stepped down earlier this week citing personal health reasons. He also admitted to being inappropriate with an employee in the state house.
