Cooper Tire And Rubber See Increases In Profits Despite Lower Sales Than Last Year

Lower product liability costs increased Cooper Tire and Rubber’s operating profit and stock prices while net sales fell short. The quarter 3 standings showed that Cooper had a net income of $62 million. That’s up from $49 million during the same quarter last year. Shares also went to $1.18 per share compared to $.90 last year. Operating profit went up by $23 million from the 2016 third quarter. Cooper’s operating profit hit $101 million this year but last year only hit $78 million.

Cooper saw profits rise but net sales are down 2.3%. Sales made $751 million in 2016 but only hit $734 million this year.

Fostoria Business Robbed Thursday, Law Enforcement Officials Still Hunting Suspect

The search is still on for the armed robber of a Fostoria business last Thursday. The Review-Times reports that South Side Drive-Thru Carry-Out and Laundromat on Hissong Avenue was robbed Thursday night. The suspect entered through the front door with a firearm. He left with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is a white male and between 5 foot, 6 inches and 5 foot, 9 inches tall. He was wearing a black ski mask, dark clothing, and gloves.

New Positions Available At Seneca County Park District

Seneca County Park District is looking to add two positions to its staff. The Review-Times reports that the district is adding a business manager and a nature preserves manager. The business manager position is part-time and pays $14-$18 an hour. The nature preserves manager is a full time, salaried position. The pay range is $18-$22.

Thursday Fire In Seneca County Claimed Family Of Five

10/30/17 – 5:41 P.M.

Dozens of area firefighters battled a deadly blaze in Seneca County that claimed the lives of a family of five last Thursday. Family members identified the victims as 45-year-old James Rainey, 41-year-old Jodi Depinet-Rainey, 19-year-old Austin, 15-year-old Cody Rainey, and 7-year-old Jessica Rainey. The Review-Times reports that crews took over 12 hours to get the fire under control.

Bascom Fire Chief Mark DeVault said local business stepped up to support over 50 responders on the scene. They offered food, porta johns, and heat. Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services provided first responders with a debriefing after losing one of their own in the fire.

19-year-old Austin Rainey was one of the five victims of the fire. He was a cadet firefighter with Bascom Joint Fire District.

It took over 12 hours to get the flames under control.

Findlay Fire Spotted Early On Saturday

10/30/17 – 5:13 A.M.

A Saturday fire damaged an apartment building on South Blanchard Street in Findlay. The Courier reports that the call came in around 1:30 p.m. for a fire at 1117 South Blanchard Street. Findlay Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Sanders said the fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes.

He added that the fire seemed to be electrical and started in the garage. It damaged the attic of the one-story apartment and the outside siding. No one was injured.

Hancock County Road Projects Announced For This Week

10/30/17 – 5:01 A.M.

There will be some new construction happening on Hancock County roads this week. ODOT reports that County Road 12 will close today between State Route 613 and Township Road F-12. They are replacing a culvert beneath CR 12. The work will take about 5 days.

State Route 65 north of Belmore will close tomorrow for about three days. It will also close near County Road 5 in Leipsic on November 2 for about a week. Both closures are caused by railroad crossing repair projects.

State Route 190 between Fort Jennings and U.S. 224 will be reduced to one lane. The highway has been resurfaced and striping is underway.

Two Injured In County Road 330 Crash

10/30/17 – 4:43 A.M.

A one-car crash injured an two people from Arlington early Sunday morning in Biglick Township. The Hancock County Sheriff’s office reports that 58-year-old Eileen Cole was heading north on County Road 330. Around 12:30 she went off the west side of the roadway, rolling her vehicle over once. Both Cole and her passenger, 69-year-old John Cole of Arlington, were treated and released at the scene of the crash.

Officers issued Cole a citation for Operating WIthout Reasonable Control.

Ashland University Player Collapses During UF Men’s Basketball Scrimmage

10/27/17 – 10:51 A.M.

An Ashland University basketball player is recovering after he collapsed on the floor during a Wednesday scrimmage against the University of Findlay. The Richland Source reports a medical helicopter took Nick Bapst to the Ohio State University Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital following the incident.

A social media post from a family member says emergency personnel revived Bapst after he passed out. It added that Bapst may have suffered from cardiac arrest while on the court.

Findlay Company Fined By OSHA

10/27/17 – 10:43 A.M.

A Findlay company is facing a more than $7,000 fine for alleged safety violations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says D.L. Chambers Home Improvement exposed a worker to a potential fall during a roofing project. The finding says the company did not extend a ladder at least three-feet over a landing surface. They also say the company didn’t provide proper safety training for fall protection.

D.L. Chambers can appeal the allegations.

Findlay Implement Company Expands Into Toledo Market

10/27/17 – 10:22 A.M.

A Findlay company is expanding its reach. FIC Dealerships announced on Friday that it is buying the Anderson’s Mower Center in Maumee. FIC will fully take over operations on November 1.

In a release, FIC Founder Craig Holmes said “We are excited to add the Maumee location to our Family of Dealerships. Our team looks forward to expanding service to customers in the greater Toledo area.”

The dealership is FIC’s seventh in northwest Ohio.
