Dozens of area firefighters battled a deadly blaze in Seneca County that claimed the lives of a family of five last Thursday. Family members identified the victims as 45-year-old James Rainey, 41-year-old Jodi Depinet-Rainey, 19-year-old Austin, 15-year-old Cody Rainey, and 7-year-old Jessica Rainey. The Review-Times reports that crews took over 12 hours to get the fire under control.
Bascom Fire Chief Mark DeVault said local business stepped up to support over 50 responders on the scene. They offered food, porta johns, and heat. Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services provided first responders with a debriefing after losing one of their own in the fire.
19-year-old Austin Rainey was one of the five victims of the fire. He was a cadet firefighter with Bascom Joint Fire District.
It took over 12 hours to get the flames under control.
