22-Year-Old Findlay Native Buys Stevi B’s Pizza Buffet Restaurant

Findlay native Daniel Burket is a 22-year-old college student and now he is also an entrepreneur.  On Wednesday Burket cut the ribbon for the Stevi B’s Pizza Buffet grand re-opening. The new entrepreneur said that he owes a lot to the previous owner, Tony Sachdeva.

Burket bought Stevi B’s but said that it was costly.

He received help from the previous owner, SBA, and Huntington Bank to purchase the restaurant. Burket worked at Stevi B’s for six years and served as the general manager. Because of this, he was offered to buy the restaurant first.

Findlay Police Looking For Truck Owner Suspected Of Walmart Theft

09/20/17 – 11:21 A.M.

The Findlay Police Department is asking for your help in identifying the owner of a pickup truck. Police say that suspects used the truck to steal from the Walmart on Tiffin Avenue Monday. Two white men were taking metal shelving from the store. Management confronted the two and the fled with a large amount of the material.

Coating Company Ready To Open At Former Seneca Lumber Site

A vacant Fostoria business could see signs of life again soon. The Courier reports Fostoria City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance approving a Revolving Loan Fund loan to a new business. The New Life Powder Coating Company has applied for a $40,000 loan.

The company is setting up shop at the site of the former Seneca Lumber building on 535 Tiffin Street. They plan to hire 10 to 12 people over the next four or five years.

University Of Findlay Comes To City Council For A Loan

09/20/17 – 5:30 A.M.

The University of Findlay asked Findlay City Council to give them a taxable loan. Interim Vice President of Business Affairs Anne Wells said that the loan will be well used.

The University came to the city because they can offer an interest rate similar to the Blanchard Port Authority. Fifth Third Bank will handle the loan and the university will work with them. Council took no action on the ordinance.

Renovation Of Findlay Office Building Completed

The renovation of a Findlay office building recently finished. Ohio Logistics bought the building at the corner of Tiffin Avenue and Bright Road last year. The company poured more than $1 million into it and renamed the facility the Flag City Executive Office Suites

Chuck Bills is the president of Ohio Logistics. He says, “Our intention has been to make this the number one office building address in Findlay.” He adds the building is at the busiest intersection in Findlay, making it highly visible.

Citizens National Bank is the anchor tenant in the building.

Three Facing Robbery Charges In Findlay

9/20/17 – 5:19 A.M.

Three people are facing robbery charges for two incidents in Findlay. Prosecutor Phil Riegle tells the Courier 24-year-old Garth Brooks and 19-year-old John Ritter of Findlay took personal items during an April 4 incident behind Nicki’s Bar on North Main Street.

In another incident, 18-year-old Amari Island of Lima faces a robbery charge for a May 7 incident that happened at the CVS drugstore on Tiffin Avenue.

Clean Up Of Dazell Ditch Moving Forward

9/20/17 – 5:12 A.M.

Efforts to clean the Dalzell ditch in Hancock County are moving forward. The Courier reports the county answered questions from Findlay resident Thomas McCormick, who then indicated he wouldn’t appeal the assessments for the work. McCormick had asked for clarification about the assessments.

The county is assessing properties along the ditch an equal amount rather than an amount based on acreage. That means McCormick will pay nearly $700 less.

The project will cost around $609,000. Property owners are paying more than $497,000. The sate is kicking in more than $8,000; while Liberty Township is paying more than $21,500 and Findlay is paying more than $82,000.

Armed Robbery Reported At Findlay Business

9/20/17 – 4:59 A.M.

A woman suffered minor injuries during an armed robbery in Findlay Tuesday night. The Findlay Police Department reports the incident happened just after 9 p.m. at the 777 Games of Skill internet cafe at 1016 Tiffin Avenue.

Two men walked into the building and pulled out handguns. They shoved a woman to the floor and took cash before running away from the business to the north. The woman suffered minor injuries.

The search continues for the men. No description of the suspects is available yet.

University Of Findlay To Go Tobacco-Free

9/20/17 – 4:16 A.M.

Work is underway to make the University of Findlay a tobacco-free campus. A 16-thousand-dollar grant from the American Cancer Society will pay to develop anti-tobacco policies and education programs. The university currently bans smoking from classroom buildings and student housing. Officials say the tobacco-free campus initiative should be in place by the end of 2018.

Bicycle Restriction Ordinance Makes Its Way In Front Of Findlay City Council Again

09/20/17 – 3:49 A.M.

The bike restriction ordinance for downtown Findlay was taken off the table for a short time. Findlay City Council took the ordinance off the table to discuss some aspects of the ordinance. Councilman Grant Russell asked how the city would designate the area for bicyclists to dismount. He also asked if there should be an exemption for three-wheeled bicycles that are difficult to walk.

Many members of council agreed that the ordinance needs to wait until the construction downtown is done. They voted to table the ordinance again because of this.
