Marathon To Help Out With Texas Flood Relief

Marathon Petroleum Company will donate $1 million to help with recovery from Hurricane Harvey. According to a release, the company will make the donation to Galveston County and the Corpus Christi areas. A part of the fund will go to the United Way of Galveston County Mainland. They will also send money to the cities of Dickinson, Friendswood, League City, and Texas City.

MPC will also match any donation from its employees up to $100,000.

Habitat For Humanity Having Its 3rd Apostle Build In Hancock County

The Habitat for Humanity of Findlay/Hancock County is working on their 3rd apostle build. Executive Director Wendy McCormick said that churches help with these builds.

This year they have over 20 churches of varying denominations partnering with the build. McCormick said that it helps churches give back to the community.

There will be a wall raising event this Saturday at 10 a.m. at 1623 Payne Avenue in Findlay. The build will include 450 volunteers and will be finished by mid-October. Amber Mulholland and her four-year-old daughter are getting the house.

Marathon Decides Against Spinning Off Speedway

After much deliberation, Marathon Petroleum has decided not to spin Speedway into a separate company. The board of directors announced their decision after getting a recommendation from an independent special committee. The committee said the move provides the best chances for “enhancing long-term shareholder value.”

In a statement, Marathon CEO Gary Heminger said, “the Board has unanimously concluded that shareholder value is best optimized with Speedway remaining part of our integrated business.”

The company cited several reasons for deciding against spinning off Speedway. They included lost opportunities for integration. The company also said Speedway’s business helps protect against volatile market conditions.

Hardin County Fair Kicks Off Today

The Hancock County Fair came to an end Monday, but fair season is still going strong in the area. The Hardin County fair’s six-day run starts today in Kenton. This year’s featured grandstand act is country singer Laren Alaina. She’ll perform her hit “Road Less Traveled” and others Saturday night. Ticket information is available at HardinCountyFair.org.

Other grandstand entertainment during the week includes the high school band show tonight, harness racing Wednesday and Thursday, and the Hardin County truck and tractor pull Friday night. The fair wraps up with the swing choir show and the demolition derby on Sunday.

Six Injured In Weekend Crash In Findlay

9/5/17 – 7:33 A.M.

A two-car crash sent six people to the hospital over the weekend in Findlay. The Findlay Police Department reports the collision happened in the 1100 block of West Trenton Avenue around 9:20 a.m. Saturday.

22-year-old Vincent Riggi of Findlay was driving east when he tried to turn left across the road and hit a car driven by 57-year-old Lynn Messer-Smith. The crash hospitalized both drivers. Four people in Messer-Smith’s car including two children also went to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Police cited Riggi for failure to yield.

Boy Steals Grandpa’s Car In Fostoria

9/5/17 – 7:14 A.M.

A 10-year-old Fostoria boy is in trouble after he allegedly took his grandfather’s car over the weekend. The Review-Times reports the incident started around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of East Eagle Street. A short time later, police in Tiffin received a call from people who saw a boy driving a car recklessly on South Sandusky Street.

The boy admitted to police he took the car without permission. So far there’s no word on if he’ll face any criminal charges.

Harvey Impacts Fuel Prices, Local Gas Prices Jump Over Last Seven Days

9/5/17 – 6:45 A.M.

The effects of Hurricane Harvey are being felt at local gas pumps. Prices in Findlay have jumped more than 20 cents over the last seven days. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in the city is $2.49 today. That’s up from $2.28 a week ago. A month ago we were paying around $2.18 per gallon.

Drivers in Ottawa also report paying $2.49 per gallon today. That’s up 20 cents from last Tuesday.

We’re paying less than the state average, which has jumped to $2.53 for a gallon of regular. That’s a 24 cent increase over the last seven days.

I-75 Widening Project To Close Two Ramps Starting Today

9/5/17 – 5:55 A.M.

The I-75 widening project in Findlay brings a major change today. ODOT says the entrance and exit ramps from State Route 12 to southbound I-75 close today for about a month. Crews are installing new drainage and reconstructing the ramps. The detour takes drivers on Route 12 north on I-75 to U.S. 224 before redirecting them south again.

ODOT says drivers on I-75 southbound who need to exit at Route 12 can drive south to the U.S. 68 / State Route 15 interchange and follow detour signs to get back on northbound I-75 and back to 12.

Later this week ODOT is closing the southbound interchange from I-75 to U.S. 68 / State Route 15 for a couple of days. Crews will place beams for the new Harrison Street bridge on Thursday and Friday night. ODOT also expects to close the intersection again early next week as work continues on the bridge.

McComb Man Accused Of Ramming Water Dispensary

9/5/17 – 5:31 A.M.

A McComb man faces a misdemeanor charge after he apparently rammed a water dispensary station in the village last week. The Courier reports 22-year-old Taylor Knopf allegedly left the scene of the crash. Police in the village say Knopf hit the Northwestern Water and Sewer District WaterShed location at 180 Park Drive South with his car and then drove away.

Investigators found a serial number on some of the debris left behind and used it to track down Knopf’s car. The McComb Police Department Facebook page says the man admitted he caused the damage.

Authorities have forwarded the case to the Findlay Municipal Court.

Road Work Resumes Following Holiday Weekend

9/5/17 – 5:22 A.M.

Road work resumes today following the holiday weekend. ODOT says crews will restrict southbound I-75 in Bluffton to one lane for pavement repair this week. Lane closures take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

Elsewhere crews are restricting County Road 99 to one lane in each direction over I-75 for pavement repair. You’ll see some restrictions on the northbound exit ramp to Road 99 but the ramp will stay open during the work.

Orange barrels pop up in McComb this week. State Route 613 closes between Liberty Street and Park Drive for four days for railroad crossing repair.

Elsewhere crews are repairing pavement on State Route 103 between Bluffton and Arlington as well as on U.S. 68 in the village of Arlington.
