Hancock County To Demolish Two More Flood-Prone Properties

Hancock County will tear down two more Findlay properties in the floodplain. The county commissioners approved buying homes at 430 and 433 Clinton Court during their Thursday meeting. The cost of the two properties is a little more than $78,000 combined.

The county is using money from the flood mitigation fund to pay for the homes.

The commissioners have approved buying five flood-prone properties in the last three weeks.

 

Hancock County Gets Grant Money To Address Inmate Housing Issues

Hancock County is getting a temporary funding boost to deal with jail overcrowding. Chief Probation Officer Kimberly Switzer says Ohio gave the county two grants to offset the costs of dealing with low-level, non-felony offenders…

That makes it less likely the sheriff’s office would have to come back to the commissioners for extra money for housing inmates.

Switzer says it’s not a lot of money, but it will help make up the difference from cuts from other grants…

Switzer says her department will have to go back to the commissioners for funding a couple of more probation officers to keep up with the current case load.

Three Arrested In Seneca County Drug Crackdown

9/7/17 – 6:56 A.M.

Authorities in Seneca County served multiple search warrants Wednesday in connection to recent overdoses in the community. The Review-Times reports officers made several arrests at different locations in the county.

Officers with the Fostoria Police Department arrested 37-year-old Lamar Cartlidge following a short car chase on Columbus Avenue. A release says Cartlidge had heroin, marijuana, and cash on him at the time of his arrest.

Members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and the METRICH drug enforcement unit arrested 26-year-old Leonard Williams Jr. of Toledo and 34-year-old Todd Rumschlag of Fostoria at a Fall Street home in Fostoria.

Investigators also served search warrants at homes in Tiffin and New Riegel as part of the investigation. Additional charges in the case are pending.

Assistant Treasurer Of Findlay City Schools Named Tiffin’s Next Finance Director

The assistant treasurer of the Findlay City School system is taking a new job in Seneca County. The Courier reports Tiffin has hired Jennifer Miller as the city’s next finance director. Mayor Aaron Montz made the announcement during this week’s city council meeting.

Miller has more than 15 years of experience in accounting and management. She currently serves as assistant treasurer of Findlay City Schools. She has previously worked as a state auditor.

Findlay Man Injured In Wednesday Motorcycle Crash

9/7/17 – 5:28 A.M.

A motorcycle and an SUV collided on South Blanchard Street in Findlay Wednesday night, injuring one person. The Findlay Police Department reports the crash happened in the 1600 block of the road just after 8 p.m.

35-year-old Shauna VanDenEynde of Findlay tried to turn left into Emory Adams Park when she pulled into the path of a motorcycle driven by 47-year-old Aaron Hackworth of Findlay. Hanco Ambulance took Hackworth to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.

Officers cited VanDenEynde for failure to yield.

Several Infrastructure Projects Taking Place In Findlay

9/7/17 – 5:20 A.M.

Infrastructure projects will close several Findlay roads for the next several days. The city says to watch out for storm sewer installation on McMannes Avenue between Balsley and Tiffin avenues and McConnell Street between Carnahan and McManness avenues.

Storm sewer, electrical, and irrigation installation on Main Street between Lincoln and Center streets is reducing the road to one lane in the north and southbound directions.

A curb replacement project is closing East Sandusky from Main Street to Beech Avenue during work hours.

Crews are also closing Woodside Drive from Fostoria Avenue to the dead end and Heather Drive in the Glen Meadows area for waterline replacements.

Crews will maintain access to business and residents in the work areas.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies Take Part In Interactive Training Course

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies took part in a gun safety training exercise last week. The Putnam County Sentinel reports deputies and corrections officers took three days to take part in a simulated video training course. The interactive video courses walked officers through common scenarios and let them assess how they reacted.

The County Risk Sharing Authority provided the training. The group provides Putnam County with its liability insurance.

Findlay Man Pleads Guilty To Sex Crime

9/7/17 – 4:57 A.M.

A Findlay man has pleaded guilty to a sex crime. The Courier reports 60-year-old Jeffery Julien pleaded guilty to importuning on Wednesday. Court records show prosecutors dropped kidnapping and gross sexual imposition charges.

Investigators say Julien kidnapped an 11-year-old girl and solicited her for sex.

Julien’s sentencing hearing is set for October 11.

Fostoria Man Facing Arson Charge

9/7/17 – 4:51 A.M.

A Fostoria man is facing an arson charge. The Courier reports prosecutors are pressing second-degree felony charges against 44-year-old Chad Reinhart. Reinhart allegedly set fire to a building at 519 West Lytle Street in Fostoria on June 22.

Hancock County Prosecutor Phil Riegle says Reinhart is facing a second-degree charge because there were people in the building at the time of the fire.

Police Arrest Man After He Threw A Knife At Another Man’s Head

09/06/17 – 6:10 P.M.

A man ended up in the hospital after a knife was thrown at his head early Wednesday morning. Findlay Police responded to a call about an assault around 7:45 in the morning. The incident involved a woman with her current boyfriend and Benjamin Thomas, a man from a previous relationship. Police report that the assault started between the two men. Thomas threw a knife at the boyfriend, which caused a head laceration. Hanco EMS took the man to Blanchard Valley Hospital for a non-life threatening injury to the back of his head.

Thomas ran away but was found a short time later. Police took him into custody for felonious assault and placed him in the Hancock County Justice Center. Thomas requested that the charges be forwarded to the prosecutor for review of the two other people involved.
