A Few New Roadwork Projects Kick Off In Hancock County Today

8/28/17 – 5:24 A.M.

A few new road work projects are starting today. ODOT reports concrete repair work will take place on U.S. 30 near the Allen County line. That will reduce the highway to one lane at times. Pavement repair work is also set for State Route 103 between Bluffton and Arlington, U.S. 68 in Arlington, and State Route 18 between Fostoria and Bloomdale. Crews will maintain traffic through the work zones.

Other projects continue this week. They include rumble strip installation on U.S. 224 between State Route 235 and Findlay, U.S. 224 between Findlay and Seneca County, and State Route 12 between Findlay and Fostoria.

Lane restrictions continue on U.S. 68 between the Findlay Airport and Eagle Creek for the installation of a cable median barrier.

U.S. 224 west of Findlay remains closed for culvert repair near the intersection with State Route 235. State Route 12 is still closed east of Benton Ridge for bridge repair.

Local Red Cross Director Dispatched To Help With Hurricane Relief

8/28/17 – 5:09 A.M.

The executive director of the North Central Ohio chapter of the American Red Cross is in Louisiana to help with Tropical Storm Harvey relief effort. Todd James is overseeing a team of Red Cross communicators. The team will let residents know where to seek aid and shelter while updating the media on Red Cross efforts.

The Red Cross is sending hundreds of trained disaster relief workers, truckloads of kitchen supplies, and tens of thousands of ready-to-eat meals to support the response effort.

Peace Rally Held At Riverside Park In Response To Racist Graffiti

08/27/17 – 7:02 P.M.

There was a peace rally held in Findlay’s Riverside Park that featured several speakers. First Christian Church’s Senior Pastor Dr. Jack Sullivan Jr. said that they couldn’t let hate speech go unanswered.

Around 100 people showed up to the rally with some bearing signs with messages of support. Sullivan added that the people at the rally were advocating for equality.

The rally was formed after someone broke into the Riverside Pool and spray painted racist graffiti.

Two Injured In Marion Township Crash

08/25/17 – 2:09 P.M.

A two car crash on State Route 12 in Marion Township sent two people to the hospital this morning. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident happened around 9:10 a.m. at the intersection of 12 and Township Road 212. 24-year old Hadeel Salameh of Findlay was heading north on 212. She pulled out of the stop sign at State ROute 12 and into the path of 31-year-old Ashley Nelson’s vehicle.

Salameh and Nelson both suffered injuries from the crash. Hanco EMS took them to Blanchard Valley Hospital. Officers cited Salameh for failure to yield the right of way.

Wife Of Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputy Sentenced For Burglaries

8/25/17 – 7:43 A.M.

The wife of a Seneca County Sheriff’s deputy is going to jail for stealing pain medication from friends and neighbors. The Review-Times reports 45-year-old Angela Best of Republic pleaded guilty to 12 counts of burglary this week. Judge Michael Kelbley sentenced her to four years in prison.

Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine tells the newspaper Best is addicted to pain pills. He said Best didn’t take anything from homes other than medication.

Angela Best is the wife of Deputy Richard Best. He said he didn’t know anything about his wife’s activities. He added, “She needs a timeout to try and get some control over this addiction.”

Best is eligible for judicial release in six months.

Seneca County Officials Look At Parking Issues Around New Justice Center

8/25/17 – 7:34 A.M.

Seneca County officials have concerns about parking in Tiffin once the new Justice Center opens. The Review-Times reports the Justice Center Leadership Core Team talked about the issue on Thursday. Seneca County Commissioner Shayne Thomas says there are already parking concerns in downtown Tiffin. He says they need to find solutions before the center opens and brings more people into the area.

Commissioner Mike Kerschner says he thinks there is enough parking, as long as regulations are enforced. Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff agreed.

The group created a subcommittee to look into the issue.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies Help With Search For Henry County Suspect

8/25/17 – 6:46 A.M.

Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies helped Henry County authorities arrest a burglary suspect Thursday. Sheriff Brian Siefker says investigators were looking for a man near Henry County Road 15 around 4 p.m. At the time deputies believed the man had hand guns on him.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office suspended the search for the man just after 4:15 p.m. However, around 45 minutes later authorities found and arrested the man without incident.

Arlington To Make Case For Main Street Repairs

8/25/17 – 5:36 A.M.

Arlington officials are ready to lobby for funding to fix Main Street in the village. The Courier reports they’ll state their case next week. A public meeting on the issue is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the village municipal building.

The issue on the agenda is the need for costly pavement repairs. Village leaders say the cost of maintaining U.S. 68 through town is too much. They say heavy truck traffic takes its toll on the road, and now the road base and drainage needs replaced.

The village has invited the Hancock County Commissioners, state representatives and ODOT to attend. The discussion will tackle the proposed $3.7 million repair project.

New Subdivision Planned In Ottawa

8/25/17 – 5:22 A.M.

Developers are planning a new subdivision in Ottawa where the old elementary once stood. The Lima News reports Bob Meyer Builder Inc. bought land off of East Fourth and North Thomas streets. He tells the newspaper there are 12 lots available.

Meyer says utilities aren’t in place just yet. He’s already sold two lots, and another sale is pending.

The price of the lots ranges from $29,000 to $36,000.
