Red Cross Hosting Centennial Blood Drive For Its 100th Anniversary

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a blood drive. Executive director Todd James said they are hoping to get 100 donors and they are offering incentives.

If you make an appointment you get your pick between Cedar Point Tickets or a $25 Meijer gift card. You’ll also get a $10 Visa gift card if you make an appointment or show up as a walk in. A BBQ meal from Miller’s Meats will also be available.

State Representative Robert Sprague Talks About Opioid Epidemic

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave a speech about the opioid epidemic and State Representative Robert Sprague talked about it on WFIN. He explained that he believes we need both consequences and treatment.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions advocated for stiffer sentences. He said that he agrees with Sessions but said treatment is the key to recovery.

Sprague said that the state has started putting funds together for 9 detox facilities in the state. He said that Ohio has been a leader in the fight against the opioid epidemic and he is glad that the federal government is stepping in to help.

Efforts Continue To Grow Findlay Workforce

Findlay business leaders say they are working to draw more workers to the area. Findlay-Hancock County Alliance Economic Development Director Tim Mayle says the organization actively scans for people in Ohio looking for jobs…

Mayle says they can find people who have placed resumes on OhioMeansJobs.com and see if they match the skill sets needed by Findlay employers. He says the project is just getting started, but they are having a lot of success in getting people to open the letters and follow the links included in them.

Plans Unveiled For New Affordable Housing In Findlay

Many have called for more affordable housing in Findlay and it appears a new construction project will meet that need. Mayle says an Ohio tax credit is helping make the Crawford Station Apartments possible…

According to the developer’s website, they’ll build 46 residential units on Melrose Avenue near Tall Timbers. The plans include two, three, and four bedroom apartments. The facility will also have a community building, shelter house, community garden, and children’s playground.

Construction could start in early 2018.

Access To Dorney Plaza Changes Tuesday

Construction on Dorney Plaza in downtown Findlay will change how you get into the Findlay Municipal building starting Tuesday. The city says starting on August 8 access to the building from the south will close. You’ll only be able to get to the entrance from the north side of the building until construction on the plaza is complete.

Local Gas Prices Down To Start The Week

Local gas prices are down quite a bit over the last week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.16 per gallon today. That’s down from $2.32 per gallon last Monday. Prices are still around 16 cents higher than they were a month ago.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.19 per gallon today. That’s a 10 cent decline over the last seven days.

Local drivers are paying less than the state average, which stands at $2.24 per gallon. That’s a seven cent drop over the last week.

Findlay Man Arrested In West Virginia Drug Bust

8/7/16 – 6:50 A.M.

Police in West Virginia arrested a Findlay man on drug charges late last week. The Herald-Dispatch reports 46-year-old Eric Brown faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. Authorities also charged him with conspiracy.

Brown was among five people arrested by the Huntington, West Virginia Violent Crimes Drug Task Force. Officers found Brown and another man in a hotel room with, “numerous individual wrapped plastic bags of suspected heroin in the bathroom.” Officers also found digital scales, razor blades and plastic bags in the room.

Authorities are holding Brown and the other men on a $200,000 bond.

Road Work Planned on Several Findlay Roads This Week

8/7/17 – 6:42 A.M.

Summer road work continues in Findlay this week. The city’s engineering department says crews will close College Street from Morey to Broad Avenue, Eastview from 6th Street to Redbird, and Westview from 6th to Redbird for curb replacement. Storm sewer replacement will close Dayton Avenue between Tiffin and the street’s dead end to the north.

You can expect to see lane closures on North Main Street between Trenton and Bigelow and on Trenton between Main and Blanchard streets for paving work. Crews are closing South West Street to through traffic between Main Cross and Sandusky for curb replacement. Work will reduce Main Street to one lane between Lincoln and Center streets for storm sewer installation.

ODOT Seeking Public Comment On U.S. 68 Project In Arlington

8/7/17 – 5:31 A.M.

ODOT is inviting public comment on a road project in Arlington. The agency is proposing the reconstruction of U.S. 68 in the village. The work would include new pavement and curbs as well as improvements to drainage and storm sewer systems.

Phase one of the project would happen between Liberty Street to the bridge over Buck Run. It could start next summer

New Roadwork Projects Start Later This Week In Hancock County

8/7/17 – 5:22 A.M.

No new road closures start today in Hancock County, but ODOT is preparing for some projects to begin later this week. You’ll see daily lane closures on U.S. 68 between the Findlay airport and Eagle Creek starting Saturday. Crews are installing a cable median barrier there. The project also includes removing a flashing light at Western Avenue and the installation of overhead lighting.

Work will slow north and southbound traffic on I-75 north of Bluffton on Wednesday for around 20 minutes. Crews are removing overhead utility lines in that area. ODOT says the slowdown should start around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
