Hancock Park District’s Hunting Lottery Starts Thursday At 7 P.M.

This Thursday you can take part in the Hancock Park District’s Hunting-with-Permission Lottery Program. There will be a mandatory informational meeting at 7 p.m. followed by the lottery. Both will take place inside the Activity barn at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. The meeting will go over all of the current rules and regulations for those interested in hunting. You must be present to take part.

The season open for hunting at Litzenberg Memorial Woods will run from November 1, 2017, to January 31, 2018. For more information, you can call the Hancock Park District at 419-425-7275.

Pedestrian Hit by Car In Ottawa, Sent To Hospital

08/09/17 – 6:09 P.M.

A pedestrian is in the hospital after being struck by a car in Ottawa Tuesday afternoon. Ottawa Police report that the accident happened around 12:50 p.m. on Oak Street. 18-year-old Raymond Orengo of Ottawa was driving south on Oak Street. He passed a vehicle and struck 58-year-old Denise Balbaugh of Ottawa.

Balbaugh was taken to Lima St. Rita’s with serious injuries. Police are still investigating the accident with charges pending for Orengo.

McComb Officially Joins Ohiocheckbook.com To Become More Transparent

McComb was recognized into ohiocheckbook.com Wednesday afternoon. Dan Risko is the Deputy Director of Public Affairs under State Treasurer Josh Mandel. He said that being a part of the website will speed up inquiries on how the village spends its money.

McComb is now part of ohiocheckbook.com to practice more transparency in its expenditures. Village mayor Chuck Latta said that he thinks this moves the village in a positive direction.

The website will allow residents to view expense reports and salaries of public entities. You can break it down by item or department. Latta said that it will be updated quarterly.

Findlay City Schools Superintendent Offers Advice On Back To School Prep

It’s back to school season and there are things you can do to make sure your kid is prepped. Findlay City School District superintendent Ed Kurt said routines are important.

He said you’ll also want your child to start eating breakfast if they aren’t already. This will give them the energy to perform throughout the school day.

Aside from routines, he said you can find supply lists on their website. Kurt said that there are some options if you can’t get the things your child will need.

Kurt added that while you’re putting school supplies in backpacks to make sure that it weighs under 10-20% of your child’s body weight. They could suffer injuries if the backpack is too heavy.

New Details Emerge About The Death Of Former Kenton Student At Kent State

New details are coming out following the death of a former Kenton High School football player at Kent State earlier this summer. CBS Sports reports the school can’t produce the professional certification required by the NCAA for the head football strength coach. Ross Bowsher was overseeing conditioning drills the day Tyler Heintz died.

Failure to have a certified strength coach would violate NCAA bylaws. CBS Sports also reports two of the nation’s largest strength and conditioning organizations couldn’t find certification for Bowsher.

Heintz suffered from hyperthermia during a practice this summer.

Construction Moving Forward For New Fostoria School Building

8/9/17 – 6:49 A.M.

Construction efforts are moving forward for the new Fostoria Junior/Senior High school building. The Courier reports the school board approved an early site package for phase one of the construction process during their Tuesday meeting. This clears the way for construction crews to install fencing, bring in job trailers, and start utility work. Phase one should wrap up in December.

The work will cause some changes to traffic around the current school building. You won’t be able to use the north parking lot of the Fostoria Junior/Senior High School building during phase one. Parents must drop their students off at the south entrance of the building. Students and visitors must park in the south parking lot, while staff members may park in the south or east parking lots.

Bowling Green Man Plans To Challenge Latta For Congressional Seat

8/9/17 – 5:27 A.M.

A Bowling Green man is challenging Bob Latta for his 5th District Congressional seat. The Lima News reports 68-year-old Bob Kreienkamp plans to challenge Latta in the Republican primary next May. Kreienkamp tells the newspaper he would be better at communicating with constituents than Latta currently is. He added that he felt Latta was “hiding” from area residents by not holding town hall meetings.

Kreienkamp worked in TV in Lima and Bowling Green for 33 years.

Van Wert County Commissioner Todd Wolfrum also plans to run for the 5th District seat as a Republican in 2018.

Putnam County Factory Expanding

A Putnam County factory is expanding. The Lima News reports Production Products Incorporated is adding on to its factory at 200 Sugar Grove Lane. Minutes from a May village council meeting show the expansion is adding more than 106,000 square feet to the facility.

PPI plans to add five new jobs after construction wraps up. There’s also the possibility the company could add more jobs in the future.

Rawson Woman Facing Forgery And Theft Charges

8/9/17 – 5:10 A.M.

A Rawson woman is facing charges stemming from a series of incidents in May and June. The Courier reports 31-year-old Deanna Riker tried to withdraw cash from another woman’s bank account three times in May. Authorities also say Riker broke into the same woman’s house in Bluffton in May and June.

Prosecutor Phil Riegle says the women knew each other.

Riker is facing three counts of forgery and two counts of burglary.
