Rally For Peace Held In Bowling Green

Northwest Ohioans are rallying against hate-fueled violence like what was seen in Virginia. Dozens of people gathered in Bowling Green yesterday to stand in solidarity with those killed and injured by an apparent white supremacist during a protest. Organizers say they wanted to speak out in support of love, peace and inclusion.

Road Delays Expected In Findlay

08/11/17 – 5:03 P.M.

Some Findlay Roads will see restrictions next week as road work continues. College Avenue from Morey to Broad Avenues and West Hardin Street from Main to Cory Streets will be closed through traffic. South West Street from Main Cross to Sandusky Streets will also be closed to through traffic. Curb replacement is being done on those streets.

Dayton Avenue from Tiffin Avenue to the North Dead End will be closed for storm sewer installation. Heather Drive from Glen Meadows to Glen Meadows will be closed as well for waterline replacement.

Main Street from Lincoln to Center Streets will be reduced to one lane in both directions. This is for storm sewer, electrical, and irrigation installation.

University Of Findlay Offering New Minor Starting This Year

The University of Findlay will be offering a new minor on drug addiction and recovery. The Substance Use Disorders minor is designed to teach students and the community on all aspects of addictions. It will consist of four core courses available to students of any major as well as community members.

According to a press release, the minor will focus on the complexities faced by those suffering from substance use disorders. This will provide students with an understanding of how to help individuals recover from addictions.

ODOT Announces New Lane Restrictions For I-75

08/11/17 – 3:26 P.M.

I-75 will have some new lane restrictions starting next week. ODOT reports the interstate will be reduced to one lane in both directions from south of the U.S. 68/state route 15 interchange to County Road 313. The work will be done at night and last for about one week.

The lane restrictions will continue through Findlay from 313 to County Road 99. The lane restrictions will be put in place from around 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Both lanes will be maintained during the day.

Teen Arrested After Fleeing From Findlay Officers And Wrecking Into Home

08/11/17 – 1:41 P.M.

Findlay Police arrested a teen that fled a traffic stop and crashed into a home this morning. Police report that an officer stopped a car driven by 18-year-old Marcus Sierra at the McDonald’s on Tiffin Avenue around 9:45 a.m. After the officer made contact Sierra took off through the parking lots until he reached Londonderry Drive.

He continued on Londonderry until he lost control and crashed into a parked truck and trailer at 611 Londonderry Drive. His car ended up underneath the trailer, forcing it into the porch and roof of the home. The crash also ripped off the gas meter causing a gas leak. Columbia Gas shut the gas off after being called to the scene.

Sierra fled on foot but officers found him. He is being held in the at the Hancock County Justice Center. He had active warrants for his arrest. He is also facing charges of fleeing and eluding, failure to stop at a stopsign, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Flag City Balloonfest Takes Off Today

8/11/17 – 5:16 A.M.

Flag City Balloonfest kicks off today at Emory Adams Park. The official opening ceremonies take place at 5:30 p.m. with Miss Ohio singing the national anthem. Tonight’s balloon launch is set for 6:30 p.m., with the balloon illumination taking place at 9 p.m. Fireworks follow the illumination at 10 p.m.

Other events start at 4 p.m. when the food vendors open. The kids fair opens at 5 p.m. today.

Rain put a damper on last year’s event. While there is a chance of rain today it looks clear for the rest of the weekend.

Croy Stepping Down As Putnam County Community Improvement Director

The director of the Putnam County Community Improvement Corporation is stepping down. The Lima News reports Curt Croy recently announced he was leaving the organization. Croy will stay on board until the end of the year while he trains a replacement. Croy tells the newspaper he’s moving into a new development job, but couldn’t say more until an official announcement comes in a few weeks.

The Center for Community Improvement helps with Putnam County economic development. Croy served as the director of the organization for five years.

Findlay Man Pleads Not Guilty To Drug Charges

8/11/17 – 4:56 A.M.

A Findlay man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an incident that exposed a Fostoria police officer to fentanyl in June. The Courier reports 27-year-old Logan Parrish faces a count of aggravated trafficking in drugs. Seneca County Common Pleas Judge Steve Shuff continued Parrish’s bond at $350,000 following a Thursday hearing.

Investigators say police officers found a large amount of fentanyl in Parrish’s car when they pulled him over on June 22. Officer Cory Brian apparently came into contact with the substance despite wearing protective gear. Brian became dizzy and nauseous and had to go the hospital as a result.
