Blanchard River Levels Expected To Get Above Minor Flood Stage

07/11/17 – 5:46 A.M.

We have seen plenty of rain and the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Hancock and Putnam Counties. Right now the Blanchard River in Findlay is under the action stage. The river was last seen at around 7 feet at 4 a.m. which is below the action stage of 8 feet. The river is predicted to crest in the minor flood stage at 11.5 feet.

In Ottawa, the River was seen at over 15 feet at 4:30 a.m. Action stage is 20 feet for that area. The river is predicted to crest in the minor flood stage at 23.5 feet.

Eagle Creek above Findlay is in the minor flood stage at just over 9 feet and is predicted to crest by 8 a.m. at 9.3 feet. Lye Creek crested earlier this morning.

 

Three People Injured With Two Critical After Two Car Crash

7/11/17 – 5:43 A.M.

Three people were injured, two critically, in a Monday afternoon crash at the Hancock-Putnam County line. The Courier reports 48-year-old Audra Oglesbee of McComb was heading North on County Road 16 around 4:30 p.m. 49-year-old Mark Maag of Ottawa was driving his pickup truck on County Road 78 and failed to stop at the intersection. He struck the side of Oglesbee’s car.

Oglesbee was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital. Her passenger, 21-year-old Allison Hammond of McComb, was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima for critical injuries. A medical helicopter took Maag to St. Rita’s as well with critical injuries.

 

Fostoria Man Hurt In Allen Township Accident

07/11/17 – 5:10 A.M.

A Fostoria man was injured after an accident in Allen Township around noon on Monday. The Hancock County SHeriff’s Office Reports that 34-year-old Shaun Cooper of Fostoria was heading north on County Road 140. A commercial truck driven by 47-year-old James Starkey III of Carey tried turning left and pulled into of Cooper.

Hanco EMS took Cooper to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment. Starkey was checked at the scene. Officers issued him a citation for failure to yield the right of way when turning left.

Ride To Remember Making A Comeback To Honor Veterans

07/10/17 – 11:15 A.M.

The 2nd annual Wreaths Across America Ride to Remember is coming up on July 22nd but you can register now. You can pre-register at Garner Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for five dollars off. You can also register the day of for $20 for a single rider or $25 for double riders. The event will start with registration at 10 a.m. at Garner Trucking and end at the Am Vets in Findlay.

The money raised will go towards laying wreaths on the graves of 3,000 veterans buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Seneca County Echo Unit Doing Well After 6 Months Of Full Time Service

07/10/17 – 7:39 P.M.

The Seneca County Emergency Medical Service’s Echo Unit has proven its worth to the community. The Review Times reports the Echo Unit is staffed by a paramedic. The unit houses life-saving equipment and medications. It responds alongside volunteer squads from a centralized location near Tiffin. County Director of Emergency services Ken Majors told the newspaper, “It’s made more than 450 calls since it went full time in January.”

The unit started as a part-time service in October of 2008. The Seneca County Commissioners switched the unit to full time because they felt all residents should have access to the service, regardless of the time of day.

Statistics Released On Traffic Violations And Crashes Over July 4th Holiday

07/10/17 -5:33 A.M.

Fatal crashes over the five-day Fourth of July holiday period were up from last year, according to the State Highway Patrol. The Courier reports that across the state there were 17 fatal accidents compared to 13 last year and 10 in 2015. One of this year’s crashes took place on the border of Allen and Hardin Counties. There were none in Hancock County.

District 1 of the Ohio State Highway Patrol had 114 stops for driving under the influence during the period. This district includes the Wood, Hardin, Allen, Putnam, and Hancock Counties among others. Statewide there were908 arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence. There were over 800 crashes across the state.

District 1 had the second highest number of traffic violations in the state with over 5,000. They were behind District 3 which includes the Cleveland area, which had over 5,100 citations.

Man Injured After He Drove Into A House

07/10/17 – 5:18 A.M.

An Upper Sandusky man got hurt after he struck a house with his SUV early Sunday evening. The Courier reports that 74-year-old James Stewart of 325 West Church Street heading east on Church Street around 5 p.m. in Upper Sandusky. He went off the side of the road and struck the front of a house at 219 West Church Street occupied by Judith Lambrite. Wyandot County Emergency Medical Service took Stewart to Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

The Crash remains under Investigation.

Man Hurt In Wyandot County Motorcycle Crash

07/10/17 – 5:04 A.M.

A Fostoria motorcyclist was hurt in an accident on U.S. 30 in Wyandot County over the weekend. The Courier reports that 51-year-old Donald Burger was merging on U.S. 30 from U.S. 23 but failed to navigate the curve. He lost control and was thrown from his bike, landing on U.S. 30. Wyandot County Emergency Medical Service took him to Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

Judge Routson Explains How New Budget Affects Courts

07/10/17 – 5 A.M.

The new state budget will be making things more difficult for local courts. Hancock County Common Pleas Court Judge Reginald Routson said that there are fewer options to handle probation violations.

He added that these only apply so long as no new crime was committed during the violation. This could be staying out past curfew or missing a meeting.

Aside from limitations, the budget will also hurt the amount of state money going to local courts. Routson said that this will hurt because the workload will be going up due to the limitations of the court’s options for prison.

The Hancock County Commissioners are putting a three-quarter percent sales tax in front of voters in November. Routson said that this could be helpful in filling in the reduced money from the state.

Findlay Driver Crashes After He Swerved To Miss A Deer

07/10/17 – 4:57 A.M.

Three people suffered injuries in an early morning crash east of Findlay on Friday. The Courier reports that 20-year-old David Davis of Findlay was driving west on Township Road 207 around 3 a.m. He swerved to miss a deer and went off the north side of the road, hitting a utility pole.

Davis and his passengers, 21-year-old Andrew Gray and 18-year-old Gage Watson, both of Findlay, suffered injuries. Hanco EMS took them to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment.
