Findlay Woman Injured In Weekend Crash

6/12/17 – 7:05 A.M.

A two-car crash injured a Findlay woman over the weekend. The Findlay Police Department says the collision happened in the 500 block of Broad Avenue just before 5 p.m. Saturday.

26-year-old Randy Smith of Findlay was driving his pickup truck north on Broadway when he went left of center and hit a southbound car driven by 22-year-old Sara Robinson. A medical helicopter took Robinson to a Toledo hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Police cited Smith for driving under suspension and a lane violation. Smith wasn’t injured in the crash.

Library To Lend Out Telescope Starting Later This Month

6/12/17 – 6:51 A.M.

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library will launch a telescope borrowing program later this month. The Courier reports the library will be one of only a handful in the state to offer the service. The Millstream Astronomy Club came up with the idea, pledging to donate a telescope to the library if they won it in an August raffle. Club member J.T. Senghas’ wife Audrey is a member of Friends of the Library, and suggested buying one for the facility anyway.

Library officials say they expect the telescope to be in demand, so they’ll set up a waiting list for people to use it. The list opens June 21. The library is holding a program about the telescope from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that night to talk about what to view with the equipment.

Appeals Filed In Putnam County Eminent Domain Cases

6/12/17 – 5:16 A.M.

Efforts by the Maumee Watershed Conservancy District to buy land for a diversion channel in Putnam County have hit a road block. The Courier reports two property owners have filed appeals in the case. The move halts pre-trial hearings slated to start earlier this month.

The property owners claim the conservancy district didn’t follow state law governing eminent domain. Their argument says the conservancy district failed to perform a “before and after” appraisal for the properties, and did not identify which acreage it plans to take. It also says they weren’t told about the proposed depth or dimensions of the proposed diversion channel.

The landowners are appealing a decision made in the case by Judge James Brogan on April 20. Brogan overruled their request for a judgment on pleadings. The cases now move to the 3rd District Court of Appeals in Lima for further hearings.
