With Memorial Day weekend coming up and families heading off on vacation, officers will be out and about. Sheriff Mike Heldman said that you should buckle up.
He added that there is no reason to not wear your seatbelt.
The Click It or Ticket Campaign starts Monday and will last through June 4th. Heldman said that there will be extra patrols on the road.
05/19/17 – 4:33 P.M.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind you not to provide alcohol to minors. In a release, the department says that teen drinking can have dangerous and lasting consequences. Aside from drinking and driving they say that alcohol plays a role in sexual assault, violence, property damage, and injury accidents.
To keep teens safe make sure you communicate your expectations with them. You should also talk with them about the dangers of underage drinking. You should never serve or allow teens alcohol at any party you are hosting.

Findlay City Council and the Hancock County Commissioners adopted Community Guidelines to combat the opioid epidemic. The guidelines empower the community to work together on solutions to the opioid epidemic. ADAMHS Board’s Zach Thomas said that this will help get people on the same page about the epidemic.
Thomas said that it is important to remember that addiction is a disease.
Thomas added that nobody is expendable according to the document. The community should rally around those struggling with addiction to help them into recovery.

Habitat for Humanity will break ground for another home in Putnam County this weekend. The Lima News reports the organization has a ceremony planned for 2 p.m. this Sunday at 1366 North Defiance Street in Ottawa.
The Whirlpool Corporation is building the home in partnership with the Gilbin family. It’s the second time the company has pitched in to build a home in Putnam County.
Following the ceremony, organizers are holding a reception at the Ottawa Presbyterian Church.

There’s some new food offerings in downtown Findlay for lunch this summer. The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is hosting a “Wednesday Food Truck Court” on Wednesday afternoons. The Courier reports the food trucks set up from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., or when the food runs out.
The center is setting out several tables in their parking lot for people to eat at after they get their food. They’re also setting up tables in the center’s atrium for people looking to get out of the heat.
Heather Clow is the executive director of the Marathon Center. She says they event stated with a couple of food trucks, but soon other truck owners contacted her to ask about taking part.
Angie’s Street Tacos, Dixie Girl, JK Juices, Amy May’s Rockin’ Taco, ABC Concessions and King’s Concessions all took part in the event this past Wednesday.

A motorcycle crash injured a Findlay man Thursday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department reports the incident happened just before 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Tiffin Avenue.
27-year-old Andrew Gutting was riding his motorcycle west in the area when he collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by 22-year-old Gage Haws of Findlay. Haws was trying to turn left into the Circle K parking lot.
Hanco EMS took Gutting to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police cited Haws for failure to yield while making a left turn.
5/19/17 – 4:57 A.M.
A traffic pattern change starts on I-75 through Findlay early next week. ODOT says lane shifts will move northbound drivers to the outside shoulder between the State Route 15 interchange and County Road 99. Crews will place a concrete barrier near the inside lanes through the same area. Once ODOT has has the barrier in place, crews will start more daytime work on the interstate.
A release from the agency says engineers still expect to close the northbound exit ramp from I-75 to State Route 15 late this spring or early in the summer. ODOT expects the closure to last three years.
05/18/17 – 8:02 P.M.
Findlay police found a woman that went missing earlier today. They say the 41-year-old woman went missing around 3 p.m. around the Findlay Village Mall. She was with a brown and white jack russell/terrier mix dog.
Police haven’t released her name.
05/18/17 – 6:39 P.M.
Construction projects throughout Findlay continue this week and the next week. The engineering department reports that West Main Cross from Main street to Liberty Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction. This is for curb replacement.
The westbound lanes West Main Cross from Western to Glessner Avenues will remain closed. They will reopen at 5 p.m. on Friday but close again at 7 a.m. on Monday. The closure will last the rest of next week.
East Lima Street will be closed to through traffic on Friday from East Street to Main Street.
You’re asked to avoid these blocks if possible.
05/18/17 – 5:47 P.M.
Hydrant Flushing in Findlay will continue tomorrow. The Water Distribution Department reports that they will flush hydrants from Bright Road East to County road 237 and from the Blanchard River north to Tiffin Avenue. The work will also be done from McManness Avenue east to County Road 236 north to Fostoria Avenue.
