Hancock Public Health Urges You To Schedule Immunizations For Children

If you have a child in school you might want to get their required immunizations now. The Courier reports Hancock Public Health is recommending parents schedule appointments early to avoid a backlog of people trying to get immunizations the week before school starts.

Sara Heinze is a nurse a Hancock Public Health. She tells the newspaper they were still giving immunizations in November to families who waited until just before school started to schedule their kids’ shots. Heinze says a new requirement for high school seniors to get a meningitis vaccine added to the office’s work load.

Immunizations are available Monday through Thursday by appointment. For more information call (419)424-7105.

BGSU Addresses Sexual Assault Complaints

Bowling Green State University officials are responding to students who say they’re not doing enough to stop sexual assaults on campus. The school’s leaders spoke out yesterday about their sexual assault investigation process, saying they take every report seriously. Investigations are performed by the school and police, with resources provided to each student who files a report. BGSU leaders say, however, last week’s protest underscores the need to continually improve the process.

Risk Of Major Flooding And Flash Floods For Findlay After Wet Spell

Major Flooding is possible along the Blanchard River through Findlay with a risk of flash flooding. Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that city officials are paying close attention to the river levels to do what they can.

Major flooding and flash floods are a possibility in Findlay with the coming rainfall. Mayor Lydia Mihalik said that the city wants to help you prepare by offering free sandbags.

The sandbags are available Thursday morning in the parking lot at 224 West Crawford Street.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Hancock, Seneca, Wood, and Wyandot Counties. This will last from Thursday morning to Friday evening. There is the possibility of getting 2 to 3 inches of rainfall.

University Of Findlay Graduation Ceremonies This Weekend

The University of Findlay is celebrating it’s Commencement Ceremony This weekend. The graduate and undergraduate ceremonies will be this Saturday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively. They will be held in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex. This year over 1,000 students will be walking across the stage.

Findlay Streets Will Have Restrictions This Week For Construction Projects

05/03/17 – 1:49 P.M.

There are several projects in Findlay that will restrict traffic from now until Friday. The Engineering department reports that they will restrict West Main Cross from Main Street to Liberty Street. The east and westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane. West Main Cross from Liberty Street to Western Avenue will be restricted to the westbound lanes only. Flaggers will be available to direct traffic.

Main street from West Main Cross to Front Streets will see the southbound lanes reduced to one lane today and tomorrow. Hardin Street will be closed to through traffic today and tomorrow between Liberty Street and Western Avenue.

Finally, Lima Street will be closed to through traffic today between Main and East Streets for waterline installation.

Chair of the Ohio GOP Coming To Ottawa

The Ohio GOP Chairwoman will be making a visit in Ottawa in two weeks. Jane Timken will be stopping at the Putnam County Educational Services Center at 7 p.m. on May 17. The event is free but RSVP is required to attend. You can RSVP by visiting the Putnam County Ohio Republican Party website at putnamrepublicanparty.org

Timken became the chair of the GOP in January.

UPDATE: Flood Watch Issued For Areas West Of Hancock County

There’s plenty of rain expected over the next few days, which means forecasts are calling for area rivers to rise again. The National Weather Service has already issued a Flood Watch for Hancock, Putnam, Allen, Seneca, Wood, Wyandot, and Henry counties from now through Friday evening. The NWS says between two and four inches of rain could fall between now and then.

That means some rivers could enter flood stage. The weather service’s forecast for the Blanchard River in Ottawa calls for the waterway to enter minor flood stage Saturday afternoon. The current prediction shows the river cresting at 24.5 feet Sunday morning.

The latest predictions from the NWSshows that the Blanchard River through Findlay could reach between minor and major flood stage. Current predictions show the crest at 11.9 feet on Saturday afternoon. That is just below the moderate flood stage.

We’ll keep an eye on the situation for any changes to the forecast.

Two Arrested Following Fostoria Drug Raid

Police arrested two Fostoria men on drug trafficking charges Tuesday. The Review-Times reports 42-year-old Brian Marting and 32-year-old Antwantonyo  Waites face trafficking cocaine charges. Members of the Seneca County Drug Task Force-METRICH Enforcement Unit arrested the men following a raid at 210 Potter Street.

Officers say a search of the home found suspected crack cocaine, marijuana, cash, and criminal tools.

Putnam County Bus Driver Injured In Tuesday Crash

5/3/17 – 8:47 A.M.

A school bus crash in Putnam County Tuesday morning injured the bus driver. The State Patrol reports the crash happened around 7:10 a.m. on North Main Street in Cloverdale.

Investigators say 62-year-old Ronald Miller of Ottoville drove off the left side of the road and hit a tree. Ottoville EMS took Miller to the St. Rita’s Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center in Ottawa for treatment. The crash didn’t hurt the two students on the bus at the time.

The crash remains under investigation.
