Local Small Business Owners Get Lessons In Cyber Security

Schrock says that stat shows the importance of educating your employees about the different methods hackers use to try and steal sensitive data.

Schrock says there is a wealth of information on the subject on the web. IC3.gov and the FBI website are good places to start. The FTC also has a lot of material on cyber security for small businesses.

Carey School Officials Look At Options To Sell Old Property

Officials in the Carey school district are trying to decide the best way to sell the old school property. The Courier reports the board heard from Ben and Matt Walter of Walter Brothers Auctioneers Monday night. They told board members they could sell the entire 8.5 acre parcel as one unit, or divide it into nine parcels.

The decision likely hinges on which option could bring in more money. The board will likely have a minimum price it will accept for the property.

Superintendent Mike Wank says the village zoned the old school for special use. It goes back to residential use once the district sells it.

One Person Injured In Crash On North Main Street

5/9/17 – 5:08 A.M.

A two-car crash in Findlay injured a Crestline man Monday afternoon. The Findlay Police Department says the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Main Street.

16-year-old Emma Farison of Findlay was driving south when she hit the back of a car driven by Marcus Garverick. Garverick had stopped for traffic in the area.

Hanco Ambulance took Gaverick to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police cited Farison for failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.

McComb Names New Village Solicitor

McComb has a new legal adviser. The Courier reports village council picked attorney Rob Feighner as the new village solicitor. He takes the place of Alan Hackenberg. The Hancock County Republican Party recently appointed Hackenberg to fill an empty seat in the Findlay Municipal Court.

Feighner also serves as the solicitor for Van Buren and Benton Ridge.

Feigner is a member of the Hackenberg, Beutler, Rasmussen and Feighner law firm.

Two New Technology Classes Slated For Millstream Career Center

Students at the Millstream Career Center could earn new certifications starting next year. The Courier reports the Findlay City School Board learned more about Google For Education and Microsoft Office Specialist certification classes during their Monday meeting. The board will vote on the classes at their meeting on May 22.

Director of secondary instruction Rich Steiner said more than 100 students indicated in a survey they had interest in the classes. He added that technology coordinators usually have certifications like a Microsoft Office Specialist.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Certified In New State Standards

The Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board developed new state standards for police last August. The Courier reports that the board certified the Hancock County Sheriff’s office adopted and implemented the new standards.

They are part of an effort to strengthen community and police relations. They involve standards for the use of force, including deadly. It also lays out agency recruitment and hiring.

Kentucky Man Arrested Near Findlay For Trafficking 6 Pounds Of Marijuana

05/08/17 – 6:06 P.M.

A Kentucky man was arrested on drug charges after being pulled over on I-75 Monday morning. A post on the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page says they arrested 30-year-old Usbias Phillips. He was heading south on I-75 when a K-9 unit pulled him over. The officer noticed that he was acting suspicious and had K-9 Charlie search the car. He alerted the officer and they found cash and 6 pounds of marijuana.

Officers charged Phillips with possession of marijuana and trafficking of marijuana.

Road Construction Continues in Findlay

05/08/17 – 5:48 P.M.

The City of Findlay will continue with construction projects on city streets. For the rest of the week, West Main Cross will have lane reductions. The east and westbound directions from Main Street to Liberty street will be reduced to one lane. The eastbound lanes from Liberty Street to Western Avenue will be completely closed. The westbound lanes in that area will remain open and flaggers will direct traffic.

Main street from West Main Cross to Front Street will have one lane of southbound traffic for today and tomorrow.

Hancock County Offers Family Dependency Treatment Court For Drug Recovery

Findlay Rotary club got to learn about the Family Dependency Treatment Court at their Monday meeting. Coordinator Sarah Sabol said that the voluntary program tries to keep families together.

Hancock County has a Family Dependency Treatment Court aimed at getting families put back together. Coordinator Sarah Sabol said that they use communication to keep the recovery process going.

The program is a voluntary drug court that allows people to focus on their family and recovery rather than serve jail time.

UPDATE: Local Waterways Receding After Weekend Flooding

The Blanchard River is back below flood stage in Findlay today after cresting in the moderate flood stage Saturday afternoon. The river finally dropped below action stage just after 8 a.m. today.

Downstream in Ottawa, the river crested in the minor flood stage at just over 25.2 feet Saturday night. The National Weather Service reports the river dropped out of the flood stage around 2:30 p.m. today.

The Eagle Creek crested in moderate flood stage at more than 10.4 feet early Saturday morning. It’s running at normal levels today. Lye Creek is also back to normal after cresting in the minor flood stage at 6.5 feet Friday night.

More than 1.2 inches of rain fell Thursday in Findlay according to measurements taken at the Findlay Airport. Another 1.1 inches came down Friday.
