Fostoria Man Dies In New York House Fire

4/25/17 – 5:23 A.M.

A Fostoria man died in a house fire in eastern New York this past weekend. The Daily Freeman newspaper reports firefighters found 62-year-old Richard Mondello dead in the basement of a home in Hurley, New York on Sunday. The home belonged to his father, 89-year-old Carl Mondello Jr. The newspaper says emergency responders took Carl Mondello to an area hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

60-year-old Marianne Agnello escaped the fire. She is Carl Mondello’s daughter and was living in the home with her dad. Agnello said her father helped her get out of the house.

The fire remains under investigation. Authorities say it doesn’t appear suspicious.

McComb Looking For New Village Solicitor

4/25/17 – 5:13 A.M.

McComb is in the market for a new law director. The Courier reports Alan Hackenberg resigned from his position Monday night. Hackenberg is leaving to become a Findlay Municipal Court judge. Governor John Kasich appointed him to the position late last week.

Hackenberg has handled legal matters for McComb since 2011. He took over the village solicitor position from his father, Dave Hackenberg.

McComb officials haven’t named a replacement yet.

ODOT Will Repave I-75 Ramps This Week

4/25/17 – 5:06 A.M.

ODOT crews will resurface several I-75 ramps this week. Crews will close the ramps between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day to clear the way for the work. The closures start tonight with the ramps from I-75 to State Route 613 near Van Buren. Tomorrow crews will resurface the ramp from southbound I-75 to County Road 99, and the ramp from Road 99 to northbound I-75.

Work continues in southern Wood County the following nights. On Thursday ODOT is resurfacing the ramps to I-75 at State Route 18. Friday’s work includes the ramps at Eagleville Road in North Baltimore.

Opiate Task Force Offered Free Naloxone Training

The Hancock County Opiate Task Force held a free Naloxone training at the University of Findlay. Naloxone is a drug administered to counteract an overdose. ADAMHS Board’s Zach Thomas said that the training will help the community.

He added that if you missed the community session you can still receive training.

The training goes over what an opioid overdose looks like and the steps to take when addressing it. It also covers the two types of Naloxone kits available.

Marathon Donates 500K To The University Of Findlay

Marathon gave a hefty donation of $500,000 to the University of Findlay on Monday to support their capital improvement. CEO Gary Heminger said that Marathon is excited about the university’s new building.

Heminger said that they have had a partnership with the University of Findlay for several years. He added that he hopes to see continue growth in the university and the city itself.

Road Grant Offers Upgrade To Business Road

04/24/17 – 5:08 P.M.

The state Controlling Board approved a $163,000 grant to create jobs rebuilding a road to Partitions Plus. The Courier reports that the grant will cover half of the expenses to rebuild the road. The other half will be paid by the local government and business sources, according to Economic Development Director Tim Mayle.

The project includes widening the road and placing upgraded curbs. Mayle said that there is no timing set for the project yet. He is talking to three business along the road to share the expenses with Hancock County. The businesses are Partitions Plus, Mutchler & Lewis Dental Care, and Vorst Custom Cabinets

Whirlpool Offering Tours Of Ottawa Plant

04/24/17 – 4:15 P.M.

Whirlpool is having an open house so that you can come and tour their facilities. The tours are happening this Thursday at 5 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m. at their Ottawa plant. They will cover the history of the plant as well as direct hire and other promotional opportunities within Whirlpool.

To take part you must wear full-length pants, long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes.

Road Work Planned For Several Findlay Street This Week

4/24/17 – 10:22 A.M.

You’ll see restrictions on several Findlay roads this week as improvement projects continue. The city’s engineering office says Trenton Avenue is down to one lane in each direction between Main Street and Broad Avenue for a curb replacement project. The same is true on West Main Cross Street between Main Street and Western Avenue.

Elsewhere, the city will reduce East Lima Street to one lane on Tuesday and Wednesday. Road crews will close West Hardin Street between Liberty Street and Western Avenue Wednesday through Friday.

You should avoid these areas if possible.

Search Continues For Missing 15-Year-Old From Findlay

4/24/17 – 9:00 A.M.

Local authorities are asking for your help in locating a missing teenager from Findlay. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Shane Poe went missing on April 16. They believe he could still be in the area, or possibly in Toledo. Deputies say it appears Poe left on his own.

Poe is 5’5″ tall and weighs around 120 pounds. He has blue eyes and blonde hair. He also has blue gauges in his ears.

Local Gas Prices Up Slightly Compared To Last Week

4/24/17 – 7:13 A.M.

Local gas prices are up slightly over the last week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.35 per gallon today. That’s up three cents over the last seven days, but down 11 cents from last week’s high of $2.46 per gallon.

Ottawa drivers report paying $2.39 per gallon today. That’s up six cents from last Monday.

The statewide average is $2.38, up seven cents over the last week.
