Workers’ Compensation Rebates Coming To Local Employers

Employers in Hancock and Putnam Counties will be getting rebates from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Hancock County businesses will be getting a total of more than $3.9 million. Putnam County businesses will be getting over 2.4 million dollars.

The BWC is urging these employers to invest this money in workplace safety measures.

Findlay Tops List Of Cities Least Likely To Be Affected By Inflation

Findlay was ranked as the city least likely to be affected by inflation from across the entire United States, according to a recent SmartAsset study. Senior Editor Ross Urken explained that this is partly due to strong purchasing power.

Urken said that this means there will be more money available for Findlay residents to spend. This will help bolster the local economy.

 

Urken added that this has also pushed two other Ohio cities down the list.

Findlay’s change in personal income was an increase of 5.69%. Columbus and Ashland had increases of 2.4% and 2.1% respectively. The two cities typically stayed towards the top of the list in previous years.

Local Gas Prices Coming Down After Last Week’s Spike

Local gas prices are higher than they were at this time last week, but they’ve come down from the more expensive prices we were paying later in the week. OhioGasPrices.com says the average price for a gallon of regular in Findlay is $2.65 today. That’s up six cents from last Monday, but down 12 cents from last Thursday’s prices.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.69 per gallon. That’s up five cents from last Monday.

Local prices are below the state average, which stands at $2.77 per gallon today. That’s up seven cents over the last seven days.

Wood County Fair Starts Today

The Wood County Fair kicks off today. Opening ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. tonight, followed by the youth parade at 7:30 p.m. This year’s grandstand events include harness racing today and tomorrow, drag racing Wednesday night, and a rodeo on Thursday.

The Charlie Daniels Band will play at the fair at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Five Hurt In Crash Near Lima Over The Weekend

7/30/18 – 7:47 A.M.

A three-car crash injured five people near Lima Saturday afternoon. The State Highway Patrol says the crash happened at the intersection of Eastown Road and Sunnydale Street around 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

27-year-old Erica Birchmeier of Ottawa was driving north on Eastown when she hit the back of a car driven by 46-year-old Jennifer Hiester of Ada. The impact of the collision pushed Hiester’s car into the back of another car driven by 79-year-old Rebecca Keller of Elida. Birchmeier and her passenger, as well as Hiester and her passenger, went to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Keller received treatment at the scene of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Orientation Sessions Set At Glenwood Middle School

Orientation sessions are coming up at Glenwood Middle School to prepare students for the upcoming school year. The seventh-grade open house is set for August 8 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The eighth-grade open house follows from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Sixth-grade orientation is August 9. A session from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. is for students only. Parents can rejoin them from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an open house.

Fire Damages Fostoria Home

7/30/18 – 7:18 A.M.

Fire damaged a house in Fostoria over the weekend. Firefighters responded to a home at 842 North Countyline Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The family renting the home was away on vacation.

The fire started in the attic between the house and the garage. So far there’s no word on what sparked the blaze.

One New Road Project Starting Today In Putnam County

7/30/18 – 7:12 A.M.

One new road project is getting underway in Putnam County today. ODOT says crews are closing State Route 189 west of Columbus Grove between State Route 115 and Road 16-S this week. They are replacing two culverts in that area.

Elsewhere, other projects continue. State Route 65 is down to one lane in areas between Leipsic and the Henry County line for repaving work. State Route 109 between Leipsic and the Henry County line is also seeing lane reductions for repaving.

A resurfacing project on State Route 613 between Leipsic and Continental has the highway restricted to one lane in some spots.

Part Of State Route 12 In Eastern Hancock County Closed This Week

7/30/18 – 6:53 A.M.

You’ll see one new road construction project in Hancock County this week. ODOT says they are closing State Route 12 between Findlay and Fostoria for the replacement of two culverts. The detour involves taking U.S. 23 and U.S. 224 to get around the closure.

Work continues on the I-75 bridge over Riley Creek in Bluffton. Both sides of the interstate are down to one lane while work continues on the bridge deck.

Elsewhere, U.S. 68 in Arlington remains closed between Liberty Street and the Buck Run bridge. State Route 330 over State Route 15 in Vanlue also remains closed for bridge deck replacement. State Route 103 is still down to one lane in some areas between Bluffton and State Route 698 to prepare for a chip seal project.
