Hydrant Flushing Announced For Findlay Tomorrow

05/30/17 – 6:30 P.M.

The Findlay Water Distribution Department announced the area they will flush hydrants on Wednesday. The work will be from County Road 95 south to Norfolk Southern Railroad and from 95 west to CSX Railroad. The area will include North Main Street from the Blanchard River north to County Road 99 and east to CSX Railroad.

Problem Gambling Remains A Problem For Ohio

Wallethub Survey ranked Ohio in the top ten for problem gambling and gambling disorders. Executive Director of the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio Derek Longmeier said that it is an issue.

There are ways to see if you have a problem. Longmeier explained that there is a quiz you can take online.

Longmeier added that the symptoms include issues handling money and debt. You might also have more or less money than you should on a regular basis.

Fifth Third Bank EBus Makes Stop In Findlay

Fifth Third Bank has their Financial Empowerment Mobile touring northwest Ohio until June 7. They stopped in Findlay on Tuesday at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Vice President of Community-Economic Relations Melissa Blount-Garner said that they are trying to help.

They are also working with local organizations to help with housing, healthcare, and other finances.

They will be OhioMeansJobs-Allen County in Lima tomorrow and at Hearthside Food Solutions in McComb on Thursday. They are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Commissioners Look To Improve Communication With Port Authority

Hancock County Commissioner Brian Robertson says he hopes to have better communication with the Blanchard Valley Port Authority moving forward. Robertson says he had a productive meeting with authority officials last week…

Robertson says the county and the authority need to know about incentives they are offering companies looking to locate here.

Robertson adds the county sometimes offers infrastructure incentives to businesses. He says if the authority offers a sales tax incentive then the county gets hit twice…

The port authority recently made deals with Campbell’s Soup and a housing developer that allowed them to avoid sales taxes on construction projects.

Gas Prices Down Coming Out Of Memorial Day Weekend

5/30/17 – 7:26 A.M.

Local gas prices are down following the long holiday weekend. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price for a gallon of regular is $2.23 in Findlay today. That’s down six cents from last Tuesday. Prices are about the same as they were a month ago.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.22 per gallon today. That’s down 12 cents over the last seven days.

The statewide average stands at $2.27 per gallon, down seven cents over the last week.

Road Work Continues In Findlay This Week

5/30/17 – 6:57 A.M.

You’ll see roadwork in a couple of areas around Findlay this week. The city’s engineering department says West Main Cross remains closed between Western and Glessner avenues through the rest of the week.

The first alley west of Main Street between Lima and Front streets is also closed for an alley repair project in downtown.

Berm Work Planned In Hancock County This Week

5/30/17 – 5:41 A.M.

Expect to see construction crews in a couple of areas in Hancock County this week. ODOT says crews will be repairing the berms on State Route 235 from the Hardin to Wood County lines and on State Route 103 between Bluffton and State Route 698.

Elsewhere the exit ramp from State Route 15 to U.S. 68 remains closed for bridge repair. State Route 235 west of Benton Ridge is still closed as well.

ODOT has no major changes planned for I-75 widening work this week.

Deshler Man Facing Abduction Charge In Hancock County

5/30/17 – 5:33 A.M.

Hancock County authorities arrested a rural Deshler man after he allegedly refused to let his girlfriend out his car over the weekend. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reports 30-year-old Jospeh Burns was driving his victim along several roads in Hancock County. The woman was able to text a family member to alert them to what was happening.

Burns allegedly hit the woman in the head and threatened to “kill them both.”

Burns drove to the Forest and Carey areas before coming to Findlay. He stopped on Lima Avenue near Hurd Avenue before deputies arrested him. Burns faces an abduction charge.

Fostoria Woman Killed In Weekend House Fire

5/30/17 – 5:20 A.M.

A house fire claimed the life of a Fostoria woman this weekend. The Review-Times reports 48-year-old Kim Holland suffered severe burns in a blaze at 534 East North Street around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Doctors pronounced her dead at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital.

EMS crews took Holland’s grandmother and grandfather to the hospital as well. Officials did not release their names or conditions. Holland’s brother wasn’t injured in the fire and her 10-year-old son wasn’t home at the time.

Fostoria Fire Captain Jason Root tells the newspaper they are still looking into the cause of the fire. He said it didn’t look like an oxygen tank caused the blaze.
