Findlay Man Killed In Tuesday Motorcycle Crash

5/10/17 – 9:19 A.M.

A motorcycle crash took the life of a Findlay man Tuesday night. The Findlay Police Department says the crash happened just after 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Broad and West Bigelow Avenue.

40-year-old Mark Woodruff Jr. was riding his Harley-Davidson northbound on Broad when he clipped the back of a pickup truck slowing to make a turn. The collision caused Woodruff to hit a curb, which ejected him into a nearby utility pole.

Hanco EMS pronounced Woodruff dead at the scene of the crash. Investigators say speed could have been a factor in the incident.

UPDATE: Amber Alert For Akron Boy Canceled, Boy Found Safe

The statewide Amber Alert for Darius Heard has been canceled. Authorities say they safely recovered the boy in Akron.

Authorities in northeast Ohio have issued a statewide Amber Alert for a missing 1-year-old boy. Akron Police say Darius Heard took Darius Heard Jr. by force this morning. The boy is black, around 2″ tall and weighs around 34 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red, white and blue Nautica Polo shirt and a diaper.

The suspect is a 27-year-old Darius Heard. He’s described as 6’1″ black man who weighs around 195 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black Nike jacket, and grey shorts.

The vehicle involved is a silver Chevy Sonic. It possibly has Texas Plates. There is an Enterprise rental sticker on front windshield on the driver’s side.

Police say you should call 911 if you see Heard.

Seneca County Prepares For State Opioid Addiction Funding

Seneca County’s Opioid Task Force will serve as the “community hub” that administers $25,000 in state funding in the fight against addiction. The Review-Times reports the Seneca County Commissioners voted in favor of having the task force oversee the funds during their Tuesday meeting.

The Ohio House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 49. The State Senate hasn’t voted on the measure yet. Part of the bill aims to provide local funding for the fight against the opioid epidemic in the state.

Former Putnam County Judge Dies

5/10/17 – 5:39 A.M.

A former Putnam County judge passed away over the past weekend. The Lima News reports retired judge Michael O’Malley died Sunday night in Naples, Florida. He was 74 years old.

O’Malley became a county court judge in 1993. The newspaper says O’Malley helped put a probation officer in place in his first few years on the bench.

O’Malley retired in 2010.

Hancock Park District Approves Upgrades At Three Facilities

The Hancock Park District is making upgrades at three of their facilities this year. The Courier reports the board approved the $42,500 plan at their Tuesday meeting. The plan calls for changes at Centennial Park, the Great Karg Well historical site, and River Landings.

The work includes new concrete pads and walkways, picnic tables, trash cans, and recycling centers. It also adds bike racks and signs to the facilities.

UPDATE: Officials Release Name Of Deputy Shot In Seneca County

The suspect in a domestic violence case in Seneca County shot a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday afternoon. The Courier reports the shooting happened around 2 p.m. at 92 North Tecumseh Drive in Tiffin. 34-year-old Scott Bloomfield shot Deputy Luke Cantu with a rifle before other officers at the scene fired back, killing Bloomfield.

Ohio Attorney General’s Office public information officer Jill Del Greco says Cantu is in stable condition at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital. Del Greco also said emergency responders took Bloomfield to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The incident began earlier in the day when a woman called the police and said her ex used the butt of his rifle to smash her car window and try and pull her out at 133 Schonhardt Street. She escaped, but Bloomfield showed up at her Tecumseh Trail home a short time later and stabbed her son. The woman was able to take her son to the hospital for treatment. That’s when officers arrived. The shooting happened moments later.

Crime Victim Services Offers Advice On Sweepstakes Scams

Crime Victim Services of Putnam County wants to warn you against sweepstakes scams this time of the year. Sweepstakes scams will tell you that you’ve won a prize but then ask that you send something back to get it. The Federal Trade Commission says that an organization must tell you your odds of winning, the value of the prize, and the terms and conditions to get the prize to be legal.

Signs of a scam include having to pay a fee or wire money. You might also get a check from an unknown party and be asked to send some back.

Update: Plans Made In Case Road Work Moves Boogie On Main

A Findlay summertime tradition may have to move to a new location, at least for this year. The Arts Partnership is making backup plans just in case road work on Main Street affects Boogie on Main. Events director Kelda Heitkamp wrote a letter to the Hancock County Commissioners asking for permission to use parts of Broadway Street if the road work is underway by June 2.

Peggy Gandbois of the Arts Partnership clarified Tuesday afternoon that they still plan to hold the event on Main Street, but want a backup just in case.

The commissioners agreed to let the Arts Partnership use the county parking lot at Main Cross and Cory streets and the vacant lot at 222 Broadway.

Boogie is set for June 2 from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Sports Tournaments Coming To Hancock County This Summer

The 10 and under National Fastpitch Tournament is going to held in Hancock County this year. Convention and Visitor’s Bureau director Alyssa Preston said that it will bring in a lot of people.

She added that there are a few other events getting lined up.
