Former Putnam County Substitute Teacher Sentenced For Sex Crime

5/16/17 – 5:34 A.M.

A former substitute teacher in Putnam County is going to jail for two years for having sex with an 18-year-old Pandora-Gilboa student. The Lima News reports a judge sentenced 28-year-old Jessica Storer on a count of sexual battery. During the hearing, Storer said she provided alcohol to the teen at her home last November, but didn’t make the boy drink. She then added, “I should have said no.”

Storer admitted she had sex with the teen following an investigation in December. A tip led the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the allegations.

The sentence mandates that Storer register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

Former Hearthside Solutions Employee Pleads Guilty To Making Bomb Threat

5/16/17 – 5:15 A.M.

A former employee at Hearthside Solutions in McComb has admitted to making a bomb threat at the business. The Courier reports 37-year-old Leonard McIntosh of Toledo pleaded guilty to making a false alarm last month. He faces up to 17 months in prison. Judge Jonathan Starn will sentence McIntosh on June 8.

McIntosh called the threat into the business on May 6 of last year. The indictment says the threat caused an evacuation at the plant, which cost the company at least $150,000.

Authorities found no bomb in the facility.

Deal With Port Authority Allows Campbell Soup To Avoid Sales Taxes On Findlay Warehouse

Campbell Soup won’t pay sales taxes on the construction of its $37.5 million warehouse in Findlay. The Courier reports the company has agreed to temporarily give ownership of the distribution center to the Blanchard Valley Port Authority. The authority is a government agency, and government agencies don’t have to pay sales taxes.

Under the deal, Campbell pays the Port Authority an $87,500 fee. The port authority plans to start building the warehouse south of the McLane distribution center this summer. The authority will then lease the building to Campbell at no cost. After four years Campbell will buy the building back for $10,000.

Campbell Soup Supply plans to hire 160 people when the facility opens in 2018. The company tells the state they plan to have 300 workers in the warehouse within three years.

Memorial Service Honored Fallen Officers From The Area

There was a memorial service for fallen officers from the area Monday evening. Acting Findlay Police Chief John Dunbar said that officers have faced dangers on the job for a very long time.

He added that it is important to remember and honor those men and women that die trying to protect and serve.

Eight deceased officers were recognized during the service from the Findlay and Bluffton Police Departments and the Ohio State Highway Patrol of Hancock County. All had passed away on the job between 1898 and 1973.

University Of Findlay Chapter Donates Funds To Community Organizations

The University of Findlay’s business honor society chapter donated funds to community organizations. Delta Mu Delta donated $7,000 to the community from funds raised during the fall 2016 and spring 2017 events. The recipients are Children’s Mentoring Connection, City Mission, Hancock Saves, Donnell Middle School, and the UF Giving Green Campaign.

The remaining funds will be used to help support the university’s annual Christmas on Campus event.

Team Registration Is Available For Zach Morgan Tourney

The 10th Annual Zach Morgan Tourney is coming up next month but registration is available now. The soccer tournament is run by area youth to raise money for grants. Findlay YMCA’s Jerry McNamee said that the grant will help to better the community.

The 3v3 tournament will be at Liberty Benton High School on June 17 and features teams of four. Only 3 players from each team can be on the field at one time You can register your team online for $100. The event will also feature concessions and a live DJ.

Local Gas Prices Up Slightly Over Last Week

Local gas prices are up a little as we start the new work week. OhioGasPrices.com reports the average price in Findlay is $2.19 for a gallon of regular. That’s up four cents over last Monday.

Drivers in Ottawa report paying $2.25 per gallon today. That’s an 11 cent increase over the last seven days.

The statewide average stands at $2.25 per gallon, up eight cents since last Monday.

Fostoria Fire Sends Two Firefighters To The Hospital

5/15/17 – 7:26 A.M.

A Sunday house fire sent two Fostoria firefighters to the hospital. The Review-Times reports firefighters responded to a home at 404 North Town Street around 11:15 a.m.

Lt. Greg Kizer of the Fostoria Fire Division tells the newspaper the home was vacant and was for sale. Kizer said one firefighter fell through the floor of the home. He added that the firefighter and one other firefighter went to the hospital but they didn’t suffer any injuries.

Kizer says they haven’t found the cause of the blaze yet. No damage estimate is available.

Mount Blanchard Forms Heart And Soul Committees

The Mount Blanchard Heart and Soul community improvement project is moving forward. The Courier reports officials have formed committees to get the ball rolling. The committees include communication, hospitality, planning, finance and recruitment.

The Hancock County Community Foundation awarded the village a more than $170,000 grant in March.
